I second this. I've driven across the country at least 12 times, and have been through every state except Maine, Vermont, and New Hampshire. While it's possible one of those may take the title, I will second Don's motion for PA to win it. Arkansas comes in a close second, though.

And not only are the bad condition of the roads in PA a factor, but the fact that the merge lanes onto highways have STOP SIGNS at the end of them really adds to the award potential. Dumbest thing I ever saw.

Arkansas is smooth compared to Louisiana. Easy to tell when you cross the state line.

The only part of the autobahn that has nice pavement is in germany. The rest of the autobahn/autostrada countries are terrible.

As a word it's starting to lose its "weightiness", much like we've seen recently with the word gourmet and all it's bastardized forms.

I think an IPASS is $10 (was when I bought mine), and you connect it to a card (can be debit), to reload when you reach a certain point of your choice. You may be able to add funds to it like a gift card or phone card, but I'm not sure.

No monthly fee...purchase the unit and it takes the tolls out of your pre-paid balance.

You can get it through mail without a credit card. With your minimal use, the initial start up should last you for years...

My knowledge of roads only covers three states. Will share my observations.
They aren't nice. (I warned ya)

Illinois is a wealthy state when compared to the other two. One would assume a rich state would have better roads. This is true but only partly true.

Illinois has really good terciary and secondary roads but the primary ones are average or below.
(Aunt Betty said "terciary", write that down)

Arkansas and Missouri both have EXCELLENT primary roads but the secondary and terciary ones suck balls. HORRIBLE!

I couldn't say who has the best roads but the instant I hit the other side of Mississippi River on I-57 it turns to like driving on smooth glass. However...one however. The interstate 55 around Blytheville, Arkansas sucks bad and I try to avoid that part.

I gotta ask, "how come a poor-assed state like Missouri has better highways than a rich one like Illinois?".
The answer is...CORRUPTION.

I apologize to anyone from Missouri or Illinois that has been offended.

When you borrow money to pay the bills and then spend half of it on a big party...it gets harder and harder to borrow. Illinois is doomed. Kinda wanting to escape south soon before they can't pay welfare and the whole world collapses. 8-)
Of course AT is heading this way as I head his way...I think running isn't gunna work.
Someday we gunna have to stand our ground...oh, nevermind, that's Florida. ;)

Get an Ipass so the state can track your every move. More 1984 BS.
