I can't even afford to go visit the place, now, because everything is so high-dollar.

Wondering if I'm the only one skeptical of just how high dollar a place is based on it keeping assa out?

yeah, the pictures make it look pretty rural. though the tourism site i was on had a picture of DJJ's relatives on a colonial looking boat, so i guess it could go 50/50.








assa, it's the oldest county in Md, probably top ten in the country. the county where Jamestown, Va would be the oldest, since that was the first settlement.

This is one of my parent's engagement photos. They've been married for 35 years. Their anniversary is tomorrow. The frame is old and hokey as shit, but it was the original frame and it is one of my most prized possessions. It's sat on my nightstand since I was in 3rd grade and it'll sit there till the day I die.

It's weird to see them that young. Their future was so uncertain and their day to day life so chaotic. That dog is the "Daniel" in my name. Not long after this picture he stumbled into a barbwire fence and required serious surgery, which my parents didnt have the money to pay for. They had to plead for the vet to do the work pro-bono. My mom will tell the story, she's balling in the vet's office while my dad looks the vet in the eye and tells him "we don't have the money. Did you become a vet to make money or help people?"

It's weird to think of them in that capacity now. Much like how many other people picture their parents, my entire life I grew up thinking they were this invincible, infallible entity. To think of them helpless and desperate for another human being's kindness is odd.

I don't think they even know I have this picture. I'm sure they'd just laugh at themselves now if they saw it.

I know that's not "old, old" but it's the oldest picture I have access to. If I were back home I could send a pic of my family from the late 1800s, but I can't get access to it.

You look a lot like your father. I guess you hear that a lot.

I don't wanna go into the hot attic looking for the old books with WW1 and WW2 pics. Maybe later.

He was a commercial cattle hauler. At one time they owned 18 cattle trucks, all for hire.
This is how it all started.
He was the first person in Nemaha County KS to own a new Ford truck. He was like 25, and new that truck was $200
