Yes.

But what if it were... No?

I'll give you a good example Woody. Suppose my vessel is underway, offshore at 2AM. I as captain am in bed sleeping and my first officer is on watch. The asshole runs over some ragbagger sailboat because he didn't see it. Although I was in my bunk sleeping the accident is still my fault. Sucks but That's how maritime law works.

Unless said sail boat sinks with zero witnesses - then it didn't happen and you continue underway.

Exactly three!! It's happened more than once to asshole sailboats who run at night without lights to save their batteries.

There may or may not allegedly be a sling shot and ball bearings on the salmon boat reserved for asshole sailboat captains.

Yes.

I thought the admiral controls a fleet of ships regardless of whereabouts?

You are correct but while on a ship underway traditionally he won't try to command the captain or give any orders to others that would go against the captain. I'm sure that in modern times if an Admiral in the Navy or CG was on a ship the captain would head any orders given.

A New set of batteries for big blue. The others were 3 years into an 84 month warranty, so with that I got 2 batteries for 75 bucks.

Last year the coast guard and homeland security got a tip that a certain luxury yacht was carrying drugs. When they began their search a drug dog alerted.... that's all they needed. Tore that thing apart, were so confident they were going to find something that they took sawzalls to the walls, cabinets, lockers, decks, etc. Did an enormous amount of financial damage to the boat and never found so much as a seed. Told the yacht captain "sorry", you're clear to go and left. Good luck suing the Government.

Not a very good warranty if you had to pay for them.

You can actually sue the government and get repair costs taken care of. Don't know if it'd work on water though. USCG can suck it. Except Olly, he seams reasonable.

How do battery warranties work where you buy them? These were 2 years free replacement, after that its prorated.

You said 84 months. That's like 7 years. ;)

I did. Is there any out there that are full long term replacement? I probably couldn't afford them anyways.

I think the ones from Wally Word have a 3 year warranty here.

I'm not 100% on this but I think it's the Jones Act. Once you get into US and international waters, you're at the mercy of a totally different set of laws and standards.

How could a human being sawzall through all of your shit, look at you, shrug and walk away.

Maybe I just have too much shame, but WTH. I just couldnt ever do that to another person.

Although I can picture law enforcement with their, I'm above the law attitude, thinking because they have a badge it's fine to do.
