Offical 2012-2013 WFF Traveling Decoy Thread

Postby Olly » Wed Jun 13, 2012 7:19 pm

Here we will be setting up the 2012-2013 WFF traveling decoy rules and dates. Here is a loose guideline that I've been thinking about to try and make transfering the decoy as easy as possible. Any other suggestions chime in.

1. Start the decoy with the northern most person and let it work it's way down south with the seasons.
2. Everyone that gets the decoy should try and get some good photos of it in the field and share here.
3. Try and setup some group WFF hunts over the decoy if you can.
4. I'm gonna incude a hard bound book with the decoy, write down a detailed log about your hunt for the next guy to read and enjoy.
5. I think once the dates are set it'd be better not to switch them to cut down on confusion.
6. Make sure to get to the post office on time for the next guy to get the decoy.

Be sure to thank JGUN for carving our decoy!

Here is the current list (not in order of recieving)

I'm ready to see Jgun's skills! Sounds like a good game plan. When I take it depends if I stay with this job or start back to school.

This was a little early, our season dates for MI haven't been released yet. I just wanted everyone to start thinking about when they want it.

Season typically runs from the middle of October to the end of December here. (For ducks). Goose is usually mid November to the end of January. So really anytime in November would be good for me.

I think I better prove that I can kill ducks before I go and try to show off with a traveling decoy, lol

Season opens for me Oct 6th, I'm up on the St. Lawrence in NY, practically Canada. I'd like to participate, early as possible because after the the first week I leave the private holes and start getting down and dirty with equipment.

Should we put a cap on how many people? So far it's up to 14 that I know of...

We need to decided on a cap for this. I never expected such a response, what do you guys think is a good number?

Depends on how long seasons are.

Here in OR we run from early OCT to end of JAn for duck. I don't think KS runs that long. The guys with the longer seasons (like OR) should get it when other guys don't have an open season.

1 guy a week is pretty doable so without knowing anyone else's season lengths, and purely bases on OR's season there shoulde be 15.

but in the case of me and QH, We can trade the decoy off faster than most people. Close together people maybe should try to organize a hand to hand transaction

I don't know if it will be done in time, but I would be willing to put it out in my Canada spread during early season. Would free up a spot later for duck season, but doesn't really matter to me.

Our early Teal and Wood Duck season in FL is in September. I can kill birds over it and send it North before the northern seasons open. Usually the last weekend in September down here.

Count me in if you have room. I could provide a second decoy if needed. Of course being that we only have buffleheads and black ducks here, that's all I know how to carve.

I've decided we will limit the decoy to 15 people, this is our first year doing it and I just want it to be simple. We'll go by the first 15 sign ups with back ups being in order starting with 16 and moving on. I'm sorry to the late arrivals we will be doing it again next year for sure.
