I'm not a big fan of diesel. I was siphoning fuel from a boat a few years ago (for work, I wasn't stealing the fuel) and before I knew it, I had swallowed two big gulps of diesel. Didn't know what to do, I tried throwing up, but couldn't. So I drank some milk and water, still couldn't throw up. I remember the trees on the drive home were a spectacular shade of blue, I had the taste in my mouth the rest of the day, and burped diesel for another day or two.

Well, and diesel just tastes pretty good.

TK (I think TK) was saying something about coating the outside with mustard. You should try it on at least one of them. No way I could find it now, but I'll be you could google that shit.

My advice is to try to aviod messing with them once they've started going. Let the smoke does it's work without sneaking peaks.

Also, the wood that I use has instructions to soak the wood for 20 minutes. I have found that this is not enough time, and the wood ends up burning rather than smoking. My limited experience says to soak the wood in water for an hour to get good smoke.

I saw a video where a guy used mustard on the outside and then used a rub. I think I'll go ahead with that one. I just sat my wood chips in water to let them get a good long soak. I couldn't find a coffee can big enough but i found a starter chimney. I plan to kinda make a bowl out of the coals in my basket and then pour the lit coals into that. Pretty nervous about this cook being my first one bc it's supposed to feed about 30 or so people at a party Saturday. Just gona give it hell and hope for the best. If it don't work out I guess I'll buy 50 cheeseburgers from McDonald's.

The chicken using Assas marinade was a deffinite keeper. I'm tempted to try it with lime juice next time instead of the vinnegar. Assa, maybe you should post it in the recipe forum so we don't need to dig through this thread to find it.
agreed. Jim do that or else I'll just have to bother you with a text again

Alright. The long awaited and much anticipated FRF butt smoke has begun. Had a rain delay and have only had them in for 30 minutes. Here's some photos

Keep it that ugly forever. It's like a sleeper smoker.
“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.” ― Samuel Adams
