What are you gona do just open the ball valves and set a raging garbage fire in there? Then you gotta scrape the coating out?

I'm going to take the elbows and uprights out.. I just put it all together for fun and to make sure I had everything I needed.

Shouldn't have to grind out the coating... I don't think. It has some sort of glue resin in there... I thought only food grades had to be scraped out?

I think you're right. Everything I've read says the same. Just get a big, hot fire going for four or five hours and all should be killed off inside.

Yea, I'm probably going to burn it off 2x, then season it. Should be fine by then....if not someone say something fast.

Sounds good. Only reason I could see for scraping would be if something was left in there after burning.

Prolly going to do a butt first. Seems to be the most fool proof thing to start with, and its my favorite. I've gone to several competitions but I'm always the guy handing the cooks beer, cutting stuff, applying the rub..ect I've never actually done one on my own. Pretty excited actually. I've logged about 20 youtube hrs watching people cook on these things.

Mancavemeals on youtube has some excellent videos by the way.

So it's a coincidence that it's also one of the cheapest meats around?
“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.” ― Samuel Adams

Ha! I forgot all about that! Still a little disappointed that the driver kept going. If he would've stopped in front if my house, I would've had 59 chickens off that truck before he was off the phone with his dispatcher.

How do you make yours? I'm just kinda winging it. Some people say 325 for 2-2.5 hours. Others say 275 for 3-4 hours. I like the idea of the longer cook to get more smoky flavor to the meat.

I just go bout two hours between 220-250ish. They had plenty of smoke in em. Just don't over do em and they'll be the juiciest yard bird you'll ever eat.
