This is my favorite duck.
His name was Tasty. Raised him from an egg.
Then shot and stuffed him. He was a good duck.
Tasty tasted so good I cried while eating him.
Waaaaaas, Tasty, nom nom, waaaaa, could you pass me the rice, waaaaa, nom nom nom....and so on.

Pintail
Wigeon
Mallards
Scoter
Teal

In that order. Jehler, those Scoter were awesome and I loved shooting them.

I won't name ducks I've never shot. There's too many purty birds out there.

My tops are gadwall, sprig, canvasback, widgeon and good ole fashioned mallards

Depends.

To see: bluewing teal, harbingers of the coming season.

To shoot: greenwings, neatest evasive moves out there.

To fool: local mottleds, most well schooled birds we see.

To impress my guests: mallards, nothing makes me look more like I know what I'm doing.

To eat: fulvous or blackbellied whistling ducks, finest flavored wild duck I've had.

But I love 'em all. (Except when I'm hating those mottleds for blowing me off and taking tamer game with them.)

(1) Golden Eye - the sound is awesome, probably the most cautious/hardest to fool - but when they decide to come in, they come with reckless abandon, wings whistling undeterred by the guns.
(2) Canvasback - few sights as cool as "The King" locked up and coming to the decoys.
(3) Old Squaw - Speed and agility, challenging bird to get the barrel in front of.
(4) Blue bill - nothing beats the sound of 50 bills making a turn at speed. I think they inspired the design of the modern fighter jet.
(5) Cotton Top - my favorite puddle duck. Haven't killed many of them. Just love the way they look.

You DO realize the Tasty story was complete bullshit? I stole it from The Simpson's when Homer ate Clampy.

4. Gadwall-don't know why
5. Hoodie-tast like shit, but they are cool little birds.

1. Green Wing Teal - When they come in early and sneak in on us
2. Blue Wing Teal - They are like super badass speedy doves.
3. Woodduck - They're pretty
4. Mallards - They talk back the most
5. Pintail - Duck that I had to work the hardest to get to commit last year

1. Redhead- Because 90 % of the population winters in my backyard and they are very stupid.

2. Pintail- Because they are so beautiful and plentiful in my neck of the woods.

3. Widgeon- Because they often fly with Pintails and Redheads and usually cap out my limit.

4. Woodies- Because they are so beautiful and love to dive into out of the way honey holes.

5. Mallards- Because they are delicious and work a decoy spread before committing.

Honorable mention- Green wing/blue wing teal and gadwalls because the teal are so fun to hunt and the gadwalls are the first ducks that I hunted that got me into the sport. And any other legal waterfowl that happens to buzz my decoy spread.

Where I live we only have Canada Geese so we simply call them geese.
Down south they have zillions of snows and some specks so they say snows, specks, or canadians. Arkansas has some park geese but almost no migrating canadas.
Its funny cuz someone always says, "you mean geese, right?".
