There are many, many days when I miss the Army, and the good times and good friends I made. But it did suck, also. Like I often tell people who ask, I wouldn't trade it for a million bucks, but I wouldn't do it again for a million bucks, either.

I have 6 deployments under my belt. 5 to Afghanistan and 1 to Guam. I just recently returned from one where I got no notice tasked to go. And we did shoot em up, pile em up missions for a good while. Glad to be back in nuclear missile defense where if I screw up I'll just kill everyone on the planet. I've been tdy to Galena Air Strip near Nome, AK; Nellis AFB, NV; Mountain Home AFB, ID; Barksdale AFB, LA and lastly Offutt AFB, NE

I served in the Army and was stationed in Germany, Alaska, Missouri, South Dakota, Alabama, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and New York. TDY everywhere in the US, Korea, and a lot of time in Philippines. Went to several of the Hooah schools- Ranger, Airborne, and Air Assault. Loved it and miss it (sometimes).

I don't miss some of the Army BS, I do miss the job and the people.

I was at DLI just before they closed Ord. Sort of sad, actually. 7th ID was already a thing of the past, and only a couple support units were left.

Started at Basic in San Antonio, Texas followed by Sheppard AFB, Texas for Tech School. First station was Camp Darby, Italy for 2.5 years. Went TDY to Tel Aviv, Israel and Qatar while there. Then headed to Minot, ND for 2.5 years, however a year and a half of that was spent in Guam working with the Navy at Gab Gab. Left ND in November of 2007 and have been at Hancock Field, NY and Fort Drum, NY since. We don't haave much for deployments here but we go about twice a year for disaster relief.

Love my time in and all of my fellow brothers and sisters I have made along the way.

I left just prior to the draw down. It was a great post and a great area. I knew the post was doomed when they built us a new commissary (1992).....

All the bitching people did about the military occupying such prime real estate, they were crying the fucking blues when it finally closed and all the money left with it. Used to irk me to listen to everyone complain, but they were more than happy to take your money.

I am being serious. If we have a mishap we fight the fire if personnel are involved. Fire dept will set up cones while EOD takes care of the mess.

Yep. We had an aircraft fire one day. Fire department shows up and tries to safe the plane. They fail miserably. We have one guy put out the hot brake fire and safe the plane all before the fire dawgs could get their tin foil suits on. Its best to just let the maintainers fight these types of fires instead of waiting for the fd to finish their jenga game and get on the flightline.

If you mean ssleeping then sometimes, yes. I work in a bomb dump. Did they tell you how to handle a SUU or ROcket engine fire?

Our FD here stays at the fire house until something happens. Then they respond, 30 minutes later.
