First hunt of 2013

Postby Laguna Madre » Tue Sep 03, 2013 12:03 am

I went on my first hunt of the 2013 season and had a great time. I love hunting new areas and when it all comes together its really cool. I got a report of a public land hunt that is about a mile from the Rio Grande River by Brownsville, Texas. My past experiences on public lands hunts is its usually crowded and the hunting is marginal at best. I will be going back to this particular unit because the hunting was awesome. The whitewings were buzzing my mojo dove in groups of 50 and it was hard but fun to pick out a single bird out of the flock. I didn't get a picture of my dog but she started off the season with hardcore enthusiasm. Hope everybody has a great season.

I've always been a fan of crowds when it comes to dove hunting. Nothing worse than being the only one in an area, sitting waiting for the dove to maybe come by, instead of having a bunch of groups to push them around, and keep them up and moving.

Never thought about it like that but its probably true. On this particular public land hunt there is paid hunting on either side which keeps the birds moving. The paid hunters were paying $125. per day and I paid $48.00 for the whole year. It turned out to be a good deal.

@Redbeard

He's a good kid and I'm currently trying to find a good deal on a 20 guage so he can start to shoot.
