DC's quitting drinking thread

Postby DC727 » Sat Sep 07, 2013 12:29 am

I let WFF down tonight, and I opened the bottle again. I stated a few days ago I was quitting, and I let tonight get the best of me. So this thread is my motivation. Talk shit to me, do whatever. When I want to drink I'm coming to this thread and blowing it up. I'm serious.

You said once a week. What day will that be? Always different, or always the same?

Once a week won't cut it, occasionally maybe. Right now, cold turkey. Shit turns me evil, I can't handle it. When I have one, I have 13. I'm living paycheck to paycheck because of it.

I grew up on pride, take pride in everything. How can a man take pride in letting a bottle control his life. If I'm young and ignorant in staying this thread someone tell me. I just don't want to be perceived as weak.

I think that your current attitude is a great start to beating it. A lot of people let the bottle take control, and it's because they don't see that there might be a problem.

It's harder for some than others, but beating it isn't easy. If you really think you need help or support, I would look into AA.

I think it takes more of a man to step up, and admit that there could be an issue, than it is to let the bottle win. Nothing weak in asking for help, or seeking support when needed...

If I break again, I'm going to my soup and getting help. I'm trying to tackle this on my own first. Wrong, maybe? But, I believe I can do it. I may need to talk to Eric or 3geese they're higher ranking and know the steps. They may even tell me to delete this.

Attitude is the biggest thing. I think you're on the right track.

I grew up in a family of boozers...seeing the bad side was enough to keep me from continuing the trend.

All joking a side, you can do it but, like is said, you may need help. You got past the part of admitting, now comes the real work of stopping. Good luck with it.

Do you drink that much alone, or with friends? That answer will dictate course of action for you.

That doesn't matter. How old are you againn? Live your life and don't worry about that shit if you have any self control at all. I probably spent a good 200-250 days a year hammered for the first 4-5 years I was in. All about self control.

First I want to say that although I love the Air Force, they will find a way to screw you over in a heartbeat. If I were you, I would not self admit. Because when you do that you will be taking a trip down to mental health and be met with a barrage of ADAPT and AA meetings that will prevent you from doing your job. When you can't do your job, people will resent you at work. That hurts you when it comes time for BTZ, quarterly awards and epr time. Have you talked to your supervisor yet? if you feel you cannot quit cold turkey that is the man or woman that I would be seeing first. Just tell them that you are having some trouble with drinking and that you do not want to self admit, but just want some encouragement. You have one of the coveted jobs in the Air Force, do not do anything stupid that could possibly put your life or job in jeopardy. I would kill to have your job. If the Air Force sees you as a liability they will do everything in their almighty powers to make you a civilian again. And you joined late so you know how hard the civilian world can be. Do you want to go down that path again? If you would like, message me your number and I can call you sometime this weekend. I have almost 10 years in, "this aint my first rodeo". I could give you an outsiders perspective on this situation.

Young guys going wild is nothing new in the military. The stress of being alone and away from your family plus the new source of income can be a bad combination sometimes. My advice is to focus on your job and stay home more, alone if you have to. Going out and drinking with the other junior members all the time will leaded to a RE-3.

i agree with geese. I would not bring this issue into the workplace. also, the idea that you need help may become an excuse to continue drinking. I mean, you'll continue drinking until you get help which may help for a little bit because you dont want to let that person down and continue abusing alcohol, but its just you you are letting down to begin with. habitual drinking is a nasty rut to be in. you feel like shit until you drink and its just a drag. cold turkey is the only way and you wont know how real sobriety feels until at least 15 days in a row to let it all out of your system including the mindset. when you leave work drink a black coffee. if you can make it to 15 days and relapse into your old habits at least you'll truly know what your giving up. a fatter pocket book and that awesome feeling of waking up in the morning super fresh, ready to tackle the day. remember that a fatter pocketbook is a form of freedom and you can't put a price on being stoked in the morning.

Maybe you need to adopt a different attitude.......find something else to do.
