Clothes trap air around your body the same way a sleeping bag traps air around your body. It's how insulation works, it's often referred to as layering. Only reason to take your clothes off is if they were wet or frozen.

I call bullshit on that one. It's always warmer to sleep naked or in underwear in a sleeping bag. Your body heat will more quickly heat up the layers of down or polyfill then they will your clothes, and make it like a little furnace. After about a thousand nights in one of those POS Army sleeping bags, a sure fire way to freeze your ass all night is to sleep in your clothes.

I freeze nuts sleeping naked in my modular sleep system. I don't wear cotton in my bags, but i do wear thermal gear and i always sleep very comfortably. also, the ratings on the MSS bags correlate directly to survivability while wearing the military thermal gear.

This is exactly what I have always been told.

You waste heat warming up your clothes and get nothing in return.

I got 5 but disagree with the tire changing one. If you in the middle of changing a tire then you have a jack going from the frame to the ground thus making their tires insulating you theory wrong.

The tires don't insulate you. A car is still going to get struck by lightning if it's going to get struck, regards of if it's on 4 tires or 3 plus a jack. The body and frame direct the current away from you so as long as you aren't holding onto the roof and the floor, you'll be fine
