it was getting rotten in the bottom 4 foot of trunk, it was the largest diameter tree i have see in iowa.
i thought it was an ash tree

My bad not an oak. Leaves aren't right. I've never seen an ash tree.

Sent from my Vox Mortem

had me worried  im not very good at trees, just some certain types of bushes
there are some monster sized logs off this old boy limbs bigger then most trees. sad to see it go but better then destroying half the house

Biggest tree I've ever worked with was a 4 footer. Old red oak.

My parents place is covored with white oaks about the size of that ash. I would bet they have seen some shit through their years. The biggest one is on the downhill of its life and i plan to have a call turned out of the heart wood when she finally turns over. Just for the nestalgia of it. I spent a lot of time climbing that tree when I was coming up

That's pretty cool huntall. When my turn comes up, I'm going to have Wingert try to make a whistle out of a broken shotgun stock from one of my Grandpa's guns.

Makes for good memories.

He did one of those before from an old 870 stock. It worked out perfectly but Aaron was scared to death the whole time because he didn't have another chance.

Fuckin tree huggers....It's his tree, he can do what he wants........"Wood is good, use it, Nature renews it." (bumper sticker from my logging days)

I didn't say that it wasn't his. I'm definitely not known as a tree hugger but if you aren't a little sad when you see a tree like that come down you obviously don't value being in nature. The things that tree would have seen and lived through would be mind boggling. It's no different than looking at an old gun and saying "if that thing could talk". Now go drink some more beer and chill.

I talked to him about it. Says he'll give it a shot, but I'm not sure he's excited about the stress of it. Hope it works out!

MINES BIGGER!
Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward. Whoever cannot take care of himself without that law is both. For a wounded man shall say to his assailant, "If I live, I will kill you. If I die, you are forgiven." Such is the rule of honor.

Get what you pay for. We break chain saws at the shop all the time because my boss is too cheap to buy a stihl. My dad still uses my grandpas stihl that is 30 years old and still cutting.
