i'm down for something eventually, i honestly didn't know our season had switched two weeks earlier now.

Well depends where MF is at? I know HFNV lives here in Helena just like myself. I am willing to drive half way to meet up. Are you?

i wouldn't mind coming up to Helena, never hunted up there before though. i will definitely be coming up there when my girlfriend has performances for the Helena symphony. we come up on friday afternoon and stay in a hotel in town, so i have both mornings free, i basically just have to be back for the performance on saturday evening.

When it freezes over, i'm going to try ice fishing for pike up there.

I keep hearing reports of people catching pike out of CF but still haven't seen it actually happen yet. I have also talked to one guy who swears he slays the smallmouth bass on the north end off the points in summer. FWP needs to give up on CF and stock some baitfish species and turn that mother into a warmwater fishery!

They're fighting a loosing battle. You can't eradicate pike from a 32,000 acre reservoir as long as there's any water left in it and rainbow trout for them to eat. I don't think the pike will ever take over CF cuz of its depth (but it will produce massive pike), but they (along with the walleyes) will continue to put the hurt on the perch until a good baitfish population is established and pressure is shifted off the perch. It's a big body of water, but has very limited spawning habitat for perch, and the christmas trees they sink in water 30 feet deep every year do nothing for perch when they are spawning.

yeah, fisheries management is pretty difficult no matter how you cut it, and i agree, you will never totally eradicate them. What's the depth of that lake? I'm going to get a tip up rig and see if i can get some this winter. i've never ice fished before so i know nothing about it, but i want to give it a shot so i have something to do instead of sitting at home all winter.

I think it gets up to 150' or so somewhere out in front of the dam. Fuck that lake though, I call it the dead sea. Can't catch shit on it through the ice. The rumors I hear are that guys catch pike out from the ponds on the east side of the lake.

I'm going to have the ultimate ice fishing thread though this winter in the fishing section!

Today was so much better. For my limit for geese in about 5 minutes jump shooting them off a pond.
