Just get a corncob pipe. They smoke nice, and it's impossible to look pretentious with a corncob.

Gimme a break. That thing was $29. The $2.95 corn cob pipes looked too cheap. Felt like they was about to fall apart in my hands

I was reading the corn cobs are good for trying new flavors or blends so you don't ruin your good pipes.

I've had this one for 3 years. By corncob pipe, I don't mean some shitty little thing like you'd win at the carnival. Most smoke shops have the Missouri Meerschaum brand, in several different styles, for about $5. I chose the style with the filter in the stem (pretty much just a rolled up piece of paper) because I tend to smoke them too fast, since I'm used to cigarettes. I'd imagine this one would last quite a few years with regular use, and darn near forever with the occasional use like I do.

The cobs are first dried for two years. Then they are hollowed out to make a bowl shape. The bowls are dipped in a plaster-based mixture and varnished or lacquered on the outside. Shanks made from pine wood are then inserted into the bowls. The first and largest manufacturer of corncob pipes is Missouri Meerschaum, located in Washington, Missouri in the USA. Missouri Meerschaum has produced the pipes since 1869. General Douglas MacArthur, Mark Twain, and Norman Rockwell were perhaps the most famous smokers of this type of pipe.

Corncob pipes remain popular today because they are inexpensive and require no "break-in" period like briar pipes. Corncob pipes are equally valued by both learners and experienced smokers who simply desire a cool, clean smoke.

Technically you don't have to cite Wikipedia, one of the reasons that teachers don't like it. And the fact that its not checked for accuracy.

Big important things are from what I remember but you can edit some of them or have they changed that?

changed it, you can edit but it has to go through their approval process now, so it gets fact checked.
