I don't believe all cops are pricks. I've given and trust a cop with almost total power on this forum. That should be proof right there.

I do feel that police in a broad sense have way much power and way too few checks in this country. This is a perfect example of that.

Red, just like bad roofers and bad carpenters it only takes one bad apple.
I know they aren't all pricks, they just have to work within a fucked up system and are called dicks by association.

This is a legit non troll question. Let's assume that the guy in the story was a upstanding guy and the cops and judge were way the hell out of line. Who could he have contacted to help him? Who could he have called to step in an as a 3rd party to look at this and say "whoa you cops this is way out of line"

This man was helpless because of power we've given cops and the automatic perceived good. You know as well as I do that no one was going to step in and stop this because it was the "good guys" doing it. Who's policing the police?

If a cop wrights a search warrant it must first be approved by a district attorney, IF the district attorney approves it then you have to take it to a superior court judge and he or she MUST approve it before the warrant can be executed.

So basically a search warrant goes through two checks and balances before it can be served.

I don't see how any district attorney or superior court judge would have signed off on a search warrant for this unless there is more to the story.

yea unfortunately no one would step in. Not unless they had some serious balls. The first hospital at least refused.

But what do you want me to say?

Who do you want policing the police?

You say cops have been given too much power...what powers would you suggest they take away from them?

Is society better off without them?

Answer these questions for me. I asked a couple questions a few posts ago and no one wanted to answer them

What if a well armed gang of MS13 was raping some chick in the back of a van? Who gonna step in an break that up? Who does she all too for help?

But what do you want me to say?

I'm not looking for a specific answer just a back and forth conversation.

Who do you want policing the police?

The American people should be policing it's police instead of absolute obedience that has been ingrained into our society in regards to the police.

You say cops have been given too much power...what powers would you suggest they take away from them?

Just like my answer above it's not so much a change in policy as it is a change in the way society views and gives police so much authority without question. Did you ever see that video of the 15 year old girl in that fast food joint that stripped down because she believed she was speaking with a police officer over the phone and was taking orders from them? That kind of blind follower-ship is what needs to change not specific policy.

Is society better off without them?

Of course not, that was a troll question.

society does police the police. That's why our job is so difficult nowadays. In fact some cops are so over scrutinized that when the time comes in a life or death situation, they'll hesitate, trying to figure out what the right thing to do is, and worrying too much about doing the wrong thing

Do some real research and you'll find law enforcement has come a long way in terms of corruption.

I would counter that the police are only policed by the fear of law suits and not by society making sure they do the right and moral thing.

I know you're a cop and I really do try and tread lightly on this subject but this exact story is proof that we give to much broad authority to police without question. I think that is a by product of a much larger problem in America where we have lost touch with the self sufficient and rebellious nature that made this country what it used to be however.

My guess is there's more to the story than we're being let on to.

But let's go ahead and burn everyone involved at the stake.

Maybe. But the medical records seem to tell a different story. As does the refusal of the first hospital to perform the "search".
well I'll admit the numerous procedures performed on him does seem extreme, though I don't know what the normal protocol is for that sort of thing.

As far as the first hospital refusing, they refuse stuff like that all the time, legal blood draws and such

But let me ask you, was he a drug dealer? Or a drug runner?

You would be correct if you could prove this story was factual and unbiased. Then I would agree this is proof or support for your conclusion but knowing what I know of this process and the checks and balances involved IMHO this story is full of half truths and written in a one sided view point.

ok well now you're speaking of morals and we can start blaming mommy and daddy if we wanna go that far. If the police doesn't police the people, who polices them?

And by referring to this story as proof, I believe you're calling it fact as in the whole story. Is that true?

I said this earlier and no one commented (outta fear of the big bad cop maybe), when I news story breaks, folks always say "yea well it the news reporting it, I'm sure they've left out several facts or truths." But when cops are involved, news stories are always accepted as fact and the whole story

Like Assa I believed this story because of the medical reports backing up his claim. Why is it that you automatically don't believe the story?

Because it wouldn't be a story if both sides told their version.

I've had a multi-million dollar business (me personally) DESTROYED/OBLITERATED with one news story published in the Boston Globe alleging illegal activity.

And once all the smoke cleared and they actually investigated the WHOLE story, they realized there was no story...they did a nice follow up and told the other side a few months later and offered a half assed apology but, and by then it was too late and it was impossible to re-create what had taken 7-8 years to build and was unraveled in literally 2 days.

Fuck the press.
