.177 or .22 pellet rifle?

Never owned or even shot a 22. Picking one up for Sam, just not sure on the caliber. What say you?

When shopping for dev we ended up with a .177, more pellets available locally and it's faster shooting, didnt so a ton of research, think they make some quick .22's now but are pricey

Get a crossman 760 in 0.177
Red, they make a bb gun/pellet rifle that can take down a raccoon or coyote. Forget what its called but I want one badly.

Obviously leaning towards the 177 mostly, like John said, cause of the availability of pellets. Just no knowledge of the 22

I've only ever had 177 guns and had no problems taking down small game. I don't think I've ever even seen 22 pellets in any stores here, so that had a lot to do with my choice of calibers.

I may allegedly know someone who killed a great blue heron with a .177. They do make some models now that you get a 177 and 22 barrel for when you buy it. Think I saw that one at Walmart.

The one my wife got me came with both barrels, but I've never even put the .177 on.

I've got 3 .177's and they work. The pellet variety is mind boggling for them. If I get another one I'm getting a .22 but for shooting squirrels and birds a .177 will knock em dead, allegedly.

yeah, mine is weak. The squirrels I shoot don't die but birch up a storm. Maybe they croak later, don't know or care as long as they fear my backyard mater patch.

You can put a standard BB behind a .177 pellet and increase the mass of the pellet. Couple more pumps makes up for the velocity.

i don't buy it, two different densities, the bb would slow down faster and not hit at the same time as the pellet, explain how this works, you glue them together?

Why not just use a heavier pellet?

The .22 will have a bigger kick and lower fps. The .177 will be more accurate and faster fps and it will be nicer on the shoulder.
