no, i had a beef and swine class a few years ago though and recall hormone discussion. they most definitely do give growth hormones to cattle, and i think they do for swine as well.

honestly, i think i saw on a pack of chicken that said it's illegal to give poultry growth hormones, could have been bullshit for all i know.

It is illegal for chickens but companies put "Hormone Free" on there as a marketing tool, even though every companies fits the bill. I didn't know about beef or swine.

a quick google search gave me this info.

there are 3 naturally occurring growth hormones that have been used for production, estradiol, testosterone, progesterone. since these are naturally occurring, the FDA can't regulate them.

there are 3 synthetic growth promoters that are legal: zeranol, trenbolone acetate and melengesterol acetate that mimic hormones. these are used in cattle and sheep. they are ineffective on poultry and swine.

synthetic estrogen used to be used in chickens, but it was found to cause vaginal cancer and was banned. it was found in other applications as well.

so there you go.

yeah i didn't know about poultry. also, it was sheep, not swine. apparently pigs are natural fatfucks
