Holy shit.

It's regulated now.

Why the fuck do you think we have the laws we have?

Hey guys - I guess we can go back to shooting lead, piss on bag limits, hen restrictions, and generally anything else that was put in place to help bird populations since clearly no evidence exists that suggests we shouldn't do those things now.

Seriously. Quit your pursuit of Wildlife Biology - it's idiot thinking like yours that's going to get us stuck with 3/30 seasons again.

the birds will move on when the weather pushes them out. baiting is not going to have a significant effect on bird movement because it's not a significant feed source. you are not going to change bird migration with a fucking bait pile.

i'm not talking about manipulating crop fields, i'm talking about bait piles. the only way i even referenced fields was that we can hunt birds in them but if you put out some corn you're now a poacher. don't turn this into something it's not.

It's also real mature to start calling someone names.

You're not getting it.

You put out a pile, what's the harm??

The next guy throws down a 10yd dump truck full - because all the birds are on your pile.

Then I tip over a train car full, to fuck with both of you.

Now multiply that by 100's and 100's of people...still don't think it will have an effect?

Fuck the duck migration, before you know it, we've dumped the worlds suply of corn into every pond in North America. Is that what you want MT? No more corn? No more doritos? No more bourbon? Cornstarch? The law is there to protect us from ourselves MT.

The limits are set with the understanding that most folks aren't going to accomplish them. If substantially more limits were taken, the size of those limits and/or the number of opportunities to take them would, in turn, have to be reduced to keep the kill within management objectives.

once again you use the slippery slope.

i never said that it couldn't be regulated, just that it really shouldn't be illegal. you don't get it Dan, i'm simply saying that it's not a big enough deal to damn someone to hell over. you still have no evidence that it would actually do anything.

Once it's legal, how do you regulate it? Only 2 gallons...ok. I'll put 2 gal here, 2 gal 20 yards down and 2 gal out 20 yards. There...I just baited 3 spots. Don't say it won't happen, because it will. Also, what's the hunting pressure like where you are at? Around here there will be a half dozen or more parties on a 1 mile stretch or shoreline. When everyone takes out a 5gal bucket of corn every time they go to their spot you don't think that would have an impact???

I've never shot all 6 of my birds in a day in my 5 years of hunting. I'm pretty confident I could put a bucket of corn in each if the beaver ponds on our deer property a couple weeks before season and limit every day for the first week.

That has always been in the back of my mind when I think about the baiting laws. Shoot, I usually go out and kill 2-3 and am fit as a fiddle over the deal so I can see how they expect people to fail to reach their limit and be happy about it.

Because its a "natural" food source. Now I know it's a man planted grain field, but whether you like it or not farming is as natural of a process as a squirrel moving acorns. Putting a bait pile in a place where there generally isn't food disrupts the natural flow.

And like I said earlier. Once everyone puts out a pile of corn the hunting won't be any different than it was before bait.

Who here hasn't hunted a baited a field? You're really missing out. Bait if once-twice a week from the start of season til the last weekend. Makes for one helluva season closer. The flocks literally keep coming. You kill a few out of it and the just fly and circle their way back down until the entire flock is dead. It's even better than roosting em.
