Scouting, take the shot or not?

I was out prepping a spot I will hunt in the morning. building a small hide. Can you see it?



It's on a hole that Quackhead secured for me to hunt. Private property and virtually unhunted. Well, I'm such a scoundrel, I knew I couldn't carry my shotgun or I'd be tempted to shoot while there. So I left it in the truck.
Here is tomorrow's spot.



There were a ton of birds on this property the day before.
Any way, back to the original post content.
Do you shoot birds while scouting? I try to refrain if it is for the next day but, I don't always hold off like I should. Quackhead gives me shit about it all the time.
After I prepped the above spot, I scouted for Thursday. Well, in one of the spots I won't hunt until Friday, if at all, I jumped a dozen buffies.
These two Mr. Pinkfeet obliged me as I swung on them. They have accepted an invite, as dinner guest, at a soon to be determined date.



So, do you, shoot while scouting?

I thought you were a sculler. Isn't sculling similar to jump shooting? You lay in the boat and sneak up on unsuspecting targets, then sit up and shoot?

Yep, I scout and if I find birds it a couple of spots, I usually hunt one of them right then. Not much opportunity to jump shoot around here unless you can find a small freshwater pond in which cast I jump shoot it every chance I get.

For me it depends on how jumpy the birds are acting if I take a shot while scouting or not. If I am scouting a place for a morning hunt with a group, then I'll leave the birds alone.

I used to hunt at a large goose club.
About the third time the owner said he had shot two while out ¨messing with the decoys"yesterday afternoon...I found somewhere else to hunt. He was hunting in the afternoons and messing up the morning hunts IMO.
Itś hard to NOT shoot and it gets really easy if your shotgun is cased and in the truck.

Theirs a big difference. See, in sculling you have to be creative in your approach. Then you water swat them or jump them with your boat while they are taking a nap. Big difference from jump shooting. In jump shooting you walk up to the sleeping birds and water swat or jump them. See the difference. Sculling your in a boat. Makes it more prestigious, and honorable. An sculling trips come with an ol timey tobacco pipe 12 paragraph essay on every trip you go on.
