I have shot several bands and damnit. ..every fucking time I put a band on a lanyard...it gets stolen. They are cursed like rings of power.

I don't ever keep them but still love seeing the dog bringing one when I've pay hunters with me. Tickles me to angrily demand, "Who shot that bird? I need to know which one of you guys shot that damn bird!"

Remarkably rare for one of them to fess up and claim responsibility until I relent and point out that someone's shot a band and not something protected.

Several years ago I took 2 kids on the juvie duck hunt and the tripod brought a banded Gladwell to me. When I got a mean tone and asked "which one of you boys shot that duck?" they both looked at each other with a scared look. Then slowly the one raises his hand and says "um, I... did", I smiled, tossed it to him and said you got a band. It was a great hunt.

Boot took a couple of kids out on the Junior hunt several years ago. They killed a banded mallard. He told me he almost had to brake up a fist fight over the damn thing.
