I usually use a 1 1/4 but I like an open choke so I don't miss. At $20+/bird I don't want to watch them fly away.
I've got a plan for a grouse load for next early season. Most if my shots are at where I think the bird is, but cover is too thick to see it. So I'm going with a 3" 1 1/2oz of 7.5s through a cylinder choke. Throw a pattern the size of a semi at em.

My thoughts for brush would be a bigger pellet that wouldn't be deflected as easy by leaves, etc. Just a thought, don't hunt much brush and trees in KS.
