Had backed up and stopped to look at something. Started forward and the ass end started heading for the river. Goosed the throttle to get all the tires turning and it kept heading for the river. Finally got a little traction and it moved sideways. Then it grabbed and I shot across the road and climbed the bank. Released the throttle but it was too late and the truck turned onto it's side and slowly slid into the tree. Without the tree it was a 20 foot drop into the river.

I have to go wipe after just reading that.

glad you're alright

That rear door was open because there was a log in place to hold it open. The comedy was me climbing my fat ass out of the opening.

Time to revamp. I may be down, but I'm not out of the game yet. Adapt. improvise and overcome.

So, talked with the insurance dude about the truck today. They decided to total it...big surprise. He said they would take it off my hands and write me a check for $14,900. I asked him if I could buy it back? He said yes, I could keep the truck and they would write me a check for $12,700. Went to the truck with a mechanic friend of mine so he could check it out. He could find zero evidence of mechanical damage. We put oil back in the engine and started it up...ran like a champ. Called the insurance dude and said write me a check for $12,700 and I'm keeping the truck. Got in and drove it home. Been checking around and I can buy all the parts and pieces to put my truck back together for about $3000. I'll end up with a salvage title, but I wasn't planning on ever getting rid of the truck anyway, AND there's no way I could afford another payment on anything.

It'll take a couple three months to put the truck back together, but I have a network of folks here to help me do that. When it's all said and done I'll have a complete truck that will be better than it was before I cracked it up (had some normal wear and tear dings and what-not), have the money to pay my portion of my upcoming shoulder surgery up front and get a 25% discount, and put some money in the bank.

Told the wife that when the Ford was done I might go out and roll the suburban. She didn't see the humor in that.

2003, 6.0 diesel. We've owned it from day 1.

Upon arrival of the insurance check, it's first stop will be at a friend's shop who used to work for the Ford dealer, and took care of my truck whenever it came in for something. He's going to make sure no oil got into the inner cooler, go over it with a fine toothed comb and change all the lubricants and filters.

I need a driver's side front door and a bed, if anyone knows were I can get those. Tailgate is fine, don't need that.

i did the same thing with mine, they tried to lowball the shit out of it though. i just kept the claim open for 6 months until they were willing to pay bluebook value. when it was all said and done i walked away with 4500 in my pocket. truck still runs like a raped ape 6 years later too.
