Gonna be unseasonably warm and dry again on Saturday and Sunday. On a positive note. The refuges haven't been hunted since last weekend. Theirs a decent chance of it being a barn burner. Keeping fingers crossed the birds are using the hunt areas heavy.

Slow hunt today but still a good one, story to follow.

Today we hunted the rice blind again in hopes our luck would continue despite the poor hunting weather. I invited my long time friend josh and he asked if his cousin from Colorado could tag along and watch the hunt. Josh showed up and we left for our 20 minute ride for the blind. Josh's cousin Kenny who I've never met seemed like a good kid and he took the ribbing I was giving him well. We met my buddy Evan at the gas pad and set out to the blind. Now Kenny had both me and Evan cracking jokes at him and finally he started laughing and told me and Evan to "fuck off"! :lol:

After that we decided Kenny's going to be just fine hunting with us.

The morning started out with shooting 20 minutes before LST coming from other blinds in the area. By LST the only birds in the sky were a mile high and heading god knows where. The sunrise was worth getting out of bed for all on its own so that made it ok.

As the morning progressed bird movement was non existent and we only had a few sprig work the spread but they never came close enough for a clean shot. As we sat there BSing I heard someone blowing a honker call in the distance. I didn't really think anything of it because of how slow the morning was, I figured someone was board and messing around but looked up and saw two large Canada's flying about 60 yards high and strait at us.

We sat still as the two big birds flew over the blind to high for a shot. As the birds passed Kenny says "I have a honker call". I looked at Kenny and said "call at them". He looks at me with fear in his eyes and say, "no... I'm no good". I looked Kenny strait in the eyes and said "Kenny don't be a pussy, call at those geese". He reluctantly started calling at the geese that were now 300 yards east of us and still moving away. The next thing I see is the pair of geese turn completely around and cup up heading strait for us. I turned to Kenny and said "you got them dude keep it up". His attitude immediately changed to excitement and surprise and he called those geese over us at 30yards where they met their end.

It was a great moment for all of us to have shared and high fives and yelling could probably have been heard a long way off.

I hope Kenny who is 17 remembers that moment forever because I know the rest of us will.
