Update from yesterday

Postby Mean Gene » Thu Jan 02, 2014 9:05 pm

So, the afternoon I called the land owner I had the run in with yesterday. I apologized again for any inconvenience I might have caused. He said it was no problem. I then presented a proposal to him to allow me to hunt in exchange for me doing some things. He said he appreciated the proposal and the call, but he wasn't going to give anyone official permission to hunt there due to liability issues. However, if he knew it was me in there he wouldn't bother me, and wouldn't kick me out. I explained I needed to be able to get my boat in and out in order to access his side of the river so I wasn't shooting toward his horse pasture. He asked if I had looked at the upper access he had suggested. I said yes, but the water was too swift to be safe. I asked him if I could use the same trail I had used the other day to get the boat in and out, and he said that would be fine. I told him what vehicle I would drive, and where it would be parked. He said that was great because he could see where I'd be parking from his house. I also told him I'd call him the day before I was going to be in there to let him know I would be hunting. He said he appreciated that. I told him I'd bring him some duck sausage when it was done. He liked that idea. He asked that if I saw anyone else in there that I would ask them to leave. I told him no problem. He ended the conversation by saying it was nice to talk to someone who actually gave a crap. Diplomacy...who would have thought that would ever work?

That's awesome. After a little time has passed, I'd recommend to him that he post it. That way, you sort of have "exclusive" hunting rights, without him having to give you permission. And he probably won't even realize what just happened.

Sculling tomorrow. Just trying to decide where. My new neo boot is still drying in garage. Hoping it'll be ready by morning

WTG Gene  Some people just have a rough veneer that you have to get through, and most would not have taken the time to do so. No telling what kind of crap he has had to deal with from the average Joe, but based on your conversations with other locals, apparently a lot. You should've been an attorney
