Falling in in your waders

if you have your waders on and remain calm you wil avoid hypothermia much longer than without waders on at all

I'm talking about trying to get back in a boat in 35* water, not walking up a set of stairs of a 70* pool. I totally agree that you will float in waders.

You ever try to get in a boat WITHOUT waders where you can't touch the bottom? It's no joke. I'll take waders every day.

Well, I fell in with hip waders during the summer. If my daughter wasn't fishing with me, I would have had to kick the waders off to stand a chance of getting back in.
My daughter's first response was to grab the camera from under a seat and take a shot of me struggling to get back in.
I still have that pic somewhere.

I agree with Q- I think it's leftover from rubber and canvas hip boots/waders.
