Saturday was our last day. When we arrived at the blind at 5am the ice line was about 700 yards outside the blind, but with increasing winds and a hard tide it was moving pretty good. By 6am we were beginning to have small open pockets in the slush ice and the edge was about 300 yards away. We put out my decoy net down-tide of the blind. It has anchors so the little bit of ice not blocked by the blind didn't move it. Killed a few blackheads while waiting for the ice to clear the blind, as soon as it did we rearranged the net downwind of the blind a tied out the other 250 decoys. A 30 mph wind and slightly warmer temps than the previous few days lead to a pretty good hunt for the last day. Killed 9 different species, saw 15 or 16 including geese and swans.
I really enjoyed this season, I got to watch several kids kill their first duck and several other folks kill their first of various species, spent a lot of time with good friends, made some new friends and killed some ducks to top it off.
The last day.
Don't really know why but when I look through the pics I took this season, this is my favorite.
