Jarbo, don't forget about timing belts every 105,000 miles.

Oh yeah. I would do timing belts, cam seals, valve seals while doing gaskets. Also have valves checked at machine shop. Bro is a service manager and dad is a mechanic, got some nice hookups.

Not even sure I'd bother with sending the heads out. The shop next door does them all the time and I don't think they have ever had head problems. Pretty easy to do. Hardest part is pulling the motor.

Bro has seen two that needed to be planed, but would be more for the valves, with that kind of time and money what's an extra $100. Engine doesn't have to come out.

may not have to come out but thats the only way I've seen it done or done it. The heads sit down on the sides of the block right up against the unibody on both sides. seen it done in less than a day with the motor being out. They come out pretty easy.

If it also needed all gaskets I'd pull it out. My dad has done a few, had good luck with fel-pro problem solvers head gaskets. Have one at the shop now with heads off, they let it go too long and ruined the block. If it were mine and I knew it never got hot or leaked for a while I'd be more likely to not send the heads out.

I think for the most part the only 2.5s that needed heads planed are the first few years, 96-2000. After that, most of the head leaks were oil only so there wasn't an issue with overheating...depending on the driver

The turbo gaskets are the ones to use on the 2005 and up. They don't seem to have problems.
