The last two times I've been stuck the 4wd wouldn't work.

So, when you needed it ...................

Yup. Last fall something broke in the linkage so it wouldn't engage when I was stuck in a mud hole duck hunting. Then this winter my dad snapped the drive shaft while we were up north at the cabin. Got out by ourselves in 2wd both times though.

You're missing the point. What good is your GM product if it failed the last two times you needed it? I'll try to add more words next time.
My friend had a nearly new(still under warranty) 1 ton GMC. We went scouting when there was still some snow in spots. He got stuck in 2' of snow. Yep only 2' of snow. While I was helping him get his awesome GM product back down the road, the front end literally blew apart. I mean shit came out the housing of the front diff. He wasn't even high reving.
The story of how I got it out is long and drawn out and involves using a chainsaw to make planking the hardway but, we got out.
I'm not impressed with GM. Who cares if it is covered by warranty or, is fixable(everything is fixable, at a cost), when you are 50 miles up in the woods broke down.

Even though I have a Chevy, fuck GM and their government bailout. Ford didn't take the handout.

Was there a tow truck involved? Considering I only lost 3 hours in travel time, that's not bad. I'm sure you've never had an alternator go out before, right?
It could've been worse, I could've had a GM and had to leave it and finish the trip in a rental.

Nothing wrong with my truck. It's over 20 years old and has 150k miles on Michigan salt covered roads. The first time it broke was a little sensor that was a quick cheap fix. The driveshaft was paper thin when it broke. Haven't had a single major problem with that truck in its life.

Now as far as new Chevy/GM. I think id have to side with Ford.

Never put the truck in 4x4 til your stuck and need it so it can fail just when you need it most. :tk:

You're very GM oriented, you expect it to break when you use it.

Maybe you're partially right. My truck's only 20 years old, maybe that's the difference. Well and, the fact mine is a Ford.
Maybe in 2 more years mine will start breaking every time I need the 4X4 too. ;)

Nope. Nothing has broke on this truck due to mechanical failure. Everything that had been fixed was basic wear and tear or from rust. I'd say 2 issues with the 4wd in 22 years isn't bad. Just so happened they were back to back.

Woody doesn't own all the Z71s. Mine has been run pretty hard in the short time I've had it.

Getting parking tickets, and driving through town with a little snow on the ground does not constitute running it hard.

That's because a z71 is basically a car with 4X4, kinda like a Subaru.

My most unstuckable vehicle was a cj-5 with 360 v8 and 3 speed manual, second best was a 1981 blazer with a 350 and 3 speed manual. Every truck I have had since then has been new and full of creature comforts, and has sucked balls off road in comparison
