A z71 is the baddest truck ever made.
People who drive them as grocery getters are pussies.

The originals were. It doesn't mean the same thing as when they first came out.

My cousins newer z71 1/2 ton is rated to pull the same as my moms envoy. And my uncles new z71 needed a "beef up" package so he could put a camper on his truck.

Do you see how those two statements really don't go together?

Rust isn't a mechanical problem. It's a byproduct of living where they dump salt by the truckloads every time a snowflake touches the road.

With it. At least the new 1/2 ton z71s are pussy trucks as far as hauling.

Go take a poll of 1000 people in your area who have a vehicle of comparable age- cars, SUVs, trucks, whatever. I would highly doubt that a broken driveshaft is anywhere near a "common occurrence" in your area. Even with all the salt.

How many times you drive your vehicle in the ocean and on the beach? How many times does it come home covered in a film of salt spray? I'd be willing to bet that your exposure to road salt is no more corrosive than my vehicle's (or anyone's vehicle in this area) exposure to the ocean.

Try again.

Nobody around here has a vehicle if comparable age. Most are junk around 15-20 year mark. This truck is getting close. Most if the front end is rusted out and the frame is getting sketchier every year.
The truck is covered in salt for 4 months if the year. You're really going to compare that to diving on the beach a couple times. I'd be willing to bet your wrong. How many mufflers you been through on your oldest vehicle?

Why would you replace a muffler?

Right about what? That your chevy is a "better 4X4" than other brands?
Your biggest point of arguement is that salt "eats the vehicle up in Michigan". By your same argument one could assume that point is now a wash for your environment, so how many of your buddies have replaced a driveline on a street truck?
Salt salt salt salt salt salt salt salt salt salt. Nobody argued salts ability to make rust, what they're trying to get you to admit is - your 4 wheel drive broken when you needed it the most. If Olly's lawn mower doesnt cut grass its just Georgia yard art.

Nuff, you know Assa lived in MN for a while, and I can guarantee you don't salt any heavier than here.

In Georgia we have a great climate. It's fairly common to see a 30 year old vehicle without an ounce of rust. Hell more than fairly common. They're everywhere. Lets start keeping a tally shall we?

No. My point is it's not worse than other trucks.
In case you missed it, I can't ask anyone because I don't know anyone with a truck older the 15 years.
And yes, something broke when I needed it. Usually stuff breaks when you're using it, and you use stuff when you need it.

You know what I'm talking about with salt then.

So how does a rusty truck mean it is poorly built?

We have muffler shops here that replace mufflers as 90% of their work. Boost the economy.
