I've said it before, basic training was an absolute blast. I would do it again in a heartbeat knowing what I know now.

knowing what you know now, what would change? You'd stop picking up the soap in that showers?

I wouldn't take what was said to us so seriously. They tried to fuck with our heads quite a bit. Also, I would learn to pick up the soap with my feet so that I didn't expose myself to "Frank the tank".

I would've greatly appreciated having dividers between the shitters. Doors would've been a plus, too, but I'd start with walls.

Yeah shoulder to shoulder shitting isn't all that fun. Especially on taco bar night at the dinning hall.

Taco bar night? What basic did you go to?

I ate like a king at basic. The food was amazing.

WTF! When did you go through? Nov 2002 my start. We had lobster but there were no such tacos. Only thing we were allowed to get up for was the cereal dispencer.

You fucking Air Force guys are making me ill. "Lobster" he says. "Taco Bar at Basic." No shit, there were many nights when we got to the chow hall late, and had to eat as we shuffled down the line, jamming chunks of chicken and spoonfuls of mashed potatoes in our mouths, because when we got to the end, there was a drill sergeant there screaming at us to throw the tray away and get outside in formation. I once put an entire swiss steak into my cargo pocket as I was shuffling down the chow line to eat later.

That was the first two weeks for me. After I learned how to eat I enjoyed the finer things.

Don't forget that I have been stationed at an Army base for 3 out of my 4 assignments. Army always has way better food than AF, hands down.

You're crazy. Well, maybe now- I have no idea. I know that every time I was TDY on an AFB, I was pretty sure I was in heaven when I went to the chow hall. Hell, we used to take the train down to Osan AFB just to eat at their chow hall when we were close. Sometimes we'd spend almost an hour just getting there.

Times have changed! Army is the new AF for sure. They still treat their people like shit, but all of their facilities are top notch and they treat me like a civilian here

I've noticed that the Army guys have more respect for rank than Air Force guys. The vet on base here is an Army Specialist. I, as an E6 walked in the door and he damn near jumped through the roof when he stood up at attention. That doesn't really happen in the AF, it's viewed as a job to most anymore.

That's because rank is everything in the Army.
