Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I've always been under the impression that Hevi-Shot is sized as its ballistic equivalent. So a Hevi #5 isn't the same size as a lead #5, just the same ballistically.

Here comes another dumb question. If that's the case, you don't get anymore pellets though, so it's not really better? Since the loads are based on weight, not pellet count, you would have, say 300 lead 5s or 300 Hevi shot 7s? Not sure that seems like a benefit.

I've killed several turkeys with cheap lead duck and pheasant loads (2 3/4") and they were just as dead as the high priced spread. I can't believe how deprived I was when I was younger, all my shotguns had fixed chokes and about all I shot was the cheapest ammunition I could get until I started loading shot shells.

I'm honestly not sure on the pellet count, I would imagine there is some difference but I don't know specs. However I would imagine you can get much better patterns with the smaller pellets.

I'll correct you - Hevishot is sized just like any other shot.

Typically, tungsten based alloys are ballistically equivalent to lead 2-2.5 sizes greater.

Birds aren't using my place yet. Gobbling off in the distance never walked to me. It was nice out though. Saw about 20 deer and a bunch of cinnamon teal and mallards.
