Finished

Postby assateague » Sat Oct 27, 2012 9:56 pm

Since the weather is supposed to be crappy, I figured I'd dig my beets and pickle them today. Just finished up. The beets were the last thing in, and I put up 20 quarts. Another season comes to a close, just in time for hunting seasons to ramp up. Not that anybody cares, but if I get bored being all cooped up, I'll tally up my totals from the garden this year. It was a pretty good year.

You guys don't eat pickled beets? What the hell is wrong with you? There is no other side dish which goes as well with wild game of any flavor. Mine are more like apple rings, I guess. I make them with a couple cloves in each jar, and the syrup is equal parts vinegar and sugar. You all are missing out.

Although the wife and kids can't stand them, either. So I guess you have something in common. With women and small female children.

So far this is confirming my thoughts that pickled beets are maybe a Southern thing. Oregon, California, and Kansas- against. Alabama, Lousiana, and me- for.

Maybe not all Southerners like them, but all people who like them are from the South? Just a guess. I'm sure there are some, but when I tried to get them when I lived in MN, people looked at me like I was crazy. Either that or the ones I did get tasted like ass. Never heard of sugar, apparently.

I'll take that as an "I like them". If I was Mythbusters, I would call it "Confirmed". If I was the redhead on Mythbusters, and Gang had just eaten a jar of pickled beets, he would try to mount me.

Of course there are outliers in any theory. Jehler pretty much lives the term "outlier".

That blonde chick on the hunting show Tiffany Lakowski. Blonde hair, big brown doe eyes and big round knockers.

Ohhhh, THAT Tiffany. I haven't watched in a couple years. If her butt got big, that's a damn shame. Although her accent makes me want to punch a baby.

No, they had a commercial out a while back for some deer attractant that the main ingredient was sugar beets. Their schtick was that it would help put weight on your deer, then she ate some and instantly her arse was huge when she walked off.

I tried to link the commercial, but couldnt find it on youtube.
