It's Crazy

Postby assateague » Tue Apr 22, 2014 6:56 am

My best friend had a fever for about 3 days that wouldn't break, no matter what, about 102. He went to the doctor yesterday because it was worse, and was admitted to the ICU shortly thereafter. No clue what was wrong, just a fever that kept hovering around 104. Was getting poked and prodded, but no clue what was up.

Last night he was diagnosed with Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. He has to stay in ICU for at least 3 more days, and is getting a stent put in this morning. Apparently, the antibiotic cocktail they have to use is so strong that it collapses veins, but which will hopefully knock it out.

Until they told him what it was, he didn't even remember pulling a tick off his ankle about a month ago. No rash, no red spot, no symptoms at all. So consider this a public service announcement, to always keep in mind when you get bit by a tick. If you get the crazy symptoms, remember the tick bite and tell the docs.

I knew I fucking hated ticks for a reason.

Damn.........he is very lucky that it was diagnosed correctly!!!!! Most doctors don't take the time to question a patient enough to find out. Glad your friend is on the road to recovery Jim

A friend of mine came down with that shit and mono at the same time and caused him to have a heart attack at 22 years old.
But two weeks later I saw him walkin out of a gas station with a 30 pack and a kayak in the back of his truck.

That's what they said about him, too- that the insane fever and dehydration stresses the body so much that they worry about cardiac arrest. Fucking nuts.

Guy who used to work here just got lime disease. First hand time I've ever heard of anyone getting it.

I've been finding a lot of wood ticks in the house this spring. They must be riding the dog or cats in. Must be lots of them this year. They seem worse this year already

That's what I was thinking, too. Seems strange, because our winter here was much more harsh than past years, but the dog and I started picking up ticks quite a while ago.

If I find a head with ticks they get put in a garbage bag with pyrethren sp? spray and let them sit overnight. I hate ticks! I feel like I'm crawling with them just talking about it.

Rats, not cats. If he had more cats he wouldn't have any rats.

Had a friend once that used to shoot feral cats and sell the skins to be made into mitten liners but the SPCA got on him so he started breeding cats so that he didn't have to hunt them, paid some Mexicans to skin them for $.25 a cat. Wasn't making any money because of the cost of cat food so he started breeding rats to feed the cats. Well, the rats out bread the cats and he had surplus rats so he caught some rattle snakes to eat the rats and finally got everything ecologically balanced. Well, the Mexicans wanted a nickel a pelt raise and that would put his company in the red so he cross bread the cats and the rattle snakes and because they shed their skins twice a year he was able to fire all the greedy Mexicans.

Haha!

More than one way to skin a cat, I guess.
