Depends on the day but it rained all mallards that day. I enjoy watching pintail circle 4-5 times before they finally commit too.

Mallards, and teal are fun.

I'd love to get some sprigs, wigeon, and woodies though.

One day you will shoot a fine drake wood duck. Things will change a little. You'll say, "gee that's a pretty bird"...then I'm gonna rip its feathers off and grill it for you. THAT will be your new birthday as at the moment of your first taste of that duck you will be reborn. Amen brutha .

"Harvest"? If I were harvesting, meaning strictly for the table, they would be fulvous and blackbellied whistling ducks and specklebellied geese.

My favorite waterfowl to "kill" are mottled ducks and blue/snow geese. The mottleds are generally year around residents that see what we're up to PDQ and not only taunt us by staying just out of range but act as pilot ducks leading more susceptible birds to safe harbors. The blues mostly just stay way the hey up there (Frustrating eye candy, like strippers you can't touch.), and are so rarely vulnerable to any but huge spreads in exactly the right location that it's sweat to get even with them, too.

My favorite waterfowl to "shoot" are greenwing teal. No waterfowl I've hunted is more acrobatic and fun to gun. As for "shooting" geese, I'd chose a shoal of blues that have bought in and are jockeying for landing position, because the visual is as close to the confusion of teal as geese get.

My favorite waterfowl to hunt with paying parties are mallards and specklebellies. They're the "money" birds in our area, what most come here hoping to take home. And no bird is more call responsive than a mallard or much easier to hit, so they make me look like I know what I'm doing.

Don't know enough about duck hunting to say. I just kill the easy stupid ones. The only good duck is a dead one unless it's a nasty old Hollywood.

Many, many a greater-billed greenhead has earned the title of "Best duck I ever ate." when called wigeon at the table.

Yup. They don't get eaten though. Use em for trapping bait. Or to feed to someone I don't like. :-)

ALmost every duck out there eats fish. I'd be willing to bet that the majority couldnt tell what type of duck it is after I cook them.
