I have an uncle who has shot out the barrel of a .243 (Savage 99, his first rifle), He literally put 10,000 rounds down the tube before he had Lilja make him a match grade .243 Winchester barrel. So far he has 2,000 down that barrel. He told me the accuracy went out between 5,000-6,000. We're talking 3/4 MOA (That's his standard for accuracy).

I know it won't go out in my lifetime, but I'm giving this gun to my kids when I have them.

Like I said, it'd take a lot of shells and time before your barrel is down for. When the throat erodes on my .25-06, I'm having either Hart, Krieger, or Lilja make me a match grade barrel in .25-06. There's no reason to set back a chamber when you already only have a 22" barrel. I'd prefer a 26" with the .25.

This thread should be renamed Rex and DnBs butt sex thread. I've shot a lot of deer with my rifle and I have glass bedded my action yet. I don't even know what that means...
Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward. Whoever cannot take care of himself without that law is both. For a wounded man shall say to his assailant, "If I live, I will kill you. If I die, you are forgiven." Such is the rule of honor.

Yes because 1 1/2" to the right is totally going to wound it.

Depends on what you're 1 1/2" to the right of.

You use an epoxy of some sort to basically make a mold in the stock where the action rests. You let the action sit in it for a period of about 24 hours, making sure you put a strong release agent on the action. The epoxy will make a nice, tight fit around th action and recoil lug. This creates minimal movement to the barreled action in the stock when the rifle is being fired. When done right it normally will decrease group size. Most of the time, it's noticeable.

Interesting so it basically makes the stock and action one without permanently doing it? If so why would you want all that one but the barrel free floating away from the stock?

On a sporter barrel, like a normal hunting one, it whips and vibrates each time you fire it. You normally don't want any point of contact in the barrel channel it will affect the harmonics of the barrel. This could cause a shot to land somewhere else from wher it's suppose to go.

Gotcha. Didn't think of that. So you just pull the stock off and lightly sand under the barrel to float it?

That's how most people do it if they want one bill under, but I have some special tools. I free float them to where at least 2 bills slide under but normally shoot for 3.

He's shooting the Nosler Accubond 110 grain. He was gonna try to make a load with Berger bullets before cali started moving towards lead free for the whole state.

Do it while you can.
