2013 - 2014 Traveling Decoy Auction

Postby RickC » Wed May 07, 2014 1:33 pm

Ok gents I'm about ready to put the Red Crested Pochard up on the auction block. Everything that was in the box when I got it back here will be included, patches, hats, and journal. The only thing that won't be there is he moldy biscuit, my wife threw that thing to the birds.
If it is bid on I will give the winner options about the decoys condition. I will offer a repainting of the whole thing, head only or no repainting at all. Of course any repainting will cover any signatures on the body and or head. Either way I will be fixing the head to where it's not swiveling around.
One last thing is that if there is a winner there will be something else included that I will reveal once the auction is done.
I work midnights and am off Sunday, Monday so I will be running the auction starting on a Friday at noon CST and ending on the following Monday at 10 pm CST if that works out for everyone interested.
I had stated before that all the proceeds would be going to charity, well I'll need to amend that as I had to stop working a second job that was helping pay for hobby stuff. The next travelers supplies will come out of the auctions proceeds then anything left over will be going to St. Jude's Children's Hospital and MS research.
Oily if this is a problem just let me know.

I have changed this to a sticky and will lock the thread until Rick starts the bidding as not to clutter it up. Rick PM me when you're ready to open it up.

Here's a pic of the bird and all the things that were added including the journal. I'm going to scan that and post the pages, hopefully next week.

Postby gila-river » Fri May 09, 2014 1:04 pm

I don't wanna buy the decoy. It should go to someone who had it during the hunts. I do however want in on the next one and I think it's awesome you're giving some proceeds to st. Jude's so I will add another 10$ to whatever the winning bidder gets it for. Good on ya Rick

Wish I would've been on that side of the line for the chance to hunt over it. Wouldn't feel right bidding on it without hunting over it.

Anyone is free to bid on it. Hunting over it or not... if that was the case only 10 people could do this... The money is going towards next years traveller and a good cause.

Hudson it looks like you're the winner. Everyone's participation and generosity is really telling about our waterfowl community.
Just shoot me a pm and we'll discuss the options I put in the first post here.
The additional item I'm adding will be a carved bust of whichever waterfowl you choose for your shelf.
For those that wanted to throw something in the pot just shoot me a PM.
Thanks once again to everyone.

Well once again the generosity of waterfowlers shines. The donation portion of this comes from my wife being a 7 year cancer survivor and was diagnosed with MS in 2002. The children's hospital portion comes from my daughter having corrective heart surgery when she was 9 months old. She's now 19 and in college on her way to becoming a doctor.
Not only have members contacted me and are throwing in some bucks to go to charities but Hudson has thrown me a curve. He has asked that the decoy stay in its current condition and also remain with me as a keepsake. I will honor his request but honestly feel kind of weird about doing so.
Hudson has also chosen a Green Wing Teal for the bust that I will provide.
And again thanks to everyone that participated.

I wanted to give the breakdown as to how the money was distributed from the auction. I also have to say that it really made me feel very proud of the waterfowling community and especially the members here at WFF. Without the generous price paid for the decoy by Hudson and the donations that came in from the rest this wouldn't be possible.

St. Judes Childrens Research Hospital - $50.00
Multiple Sclerosis Assosication of America - $50.00
American Cancer Society - $50.00
Paralyzed Veterans of America - $50.00
