If I were ignorant enough to fall for breed generalizations

Rick you're a pretty wise guy and whenever you talk I always listen but being ignorant about breeds and being ignorant of the science of genetics are two different things.

I'm no canine geneticist, but I do know many who think they understand the topic don't.

While of course I'm also not a geneticist I do understand the very basics of genetics and maybe a little more than basics. This knowledge is where I base my stand that you cannot teach a dog that has been breed to be aggressive to not be. You can only breed it out of them over generations and generations of breeding. Could pits and other attack breeds one day not have the genetic disposition to be attack dogs? Absolutely. Has that time come? I don’t think so.

I'm sure there are plenty of folk breeding Pits for purposes other than fighting who'd be happy to prove your breed generalization wrong, but I'm certainly not prepared to. Happily, it's not my fight, because the pit haters are so emotionally invested in their position there's no moving them. Sort of like the gun antis, reason with them 'til you're blue, and along will come some whack job with a gun to "prove" them right.

My next door neighbor just had pit puppies. The mother dog is sweet and I've made friends with her. The male is a bit of a freak and not so sure I'd try petting him.
I know they don't fight their dog's. I see them every day in the back yard.

Them pits are scared of Milo but I doubt that would last if the fence fell down.

oh, because the news is right . sure dont pass the sniff test to me. dont look like any chow chow lab cross i have ever seen. still dont matter it could have been the little old lady next doors beagle and i would have stabbed it in the heart..

proof is subjective. if it was a dog they got at a shelter and the people there call it a chow lab cross then it must be right?

i use some bull blood in some of my breedings. then need to be very game as do most of my dogs. some of the farms where my mutts roam free have tenants living there. the dogs are as much a part of their lives as mine. these blood thirsty demon hounds will destroy a man that is up to no good.
one little old lady had her grandson(age 5 i think) for the weekend and she lost tract of him. he had climbed into a pasture that had ewes and a ram. the devil hound seen him and dragged him by his pants leg back up near the house and barked for her and keep the big ram at bay until she got there.
on a different farm a few years back the nephew of the tenant climbed into one of the bull pens they are still thankful the aggressive dogs are there

Storm doors are the Devil's work. I've probably put in about 50 or so, and every time- EVERY FUCKING TIME- I tell myself "this is going to be the easy one, that gets done in 15 minutes".

Storm doors. Can put one in in about two hours average.
There were the ones that take half a day, and others that take 45 minutes. Mostly the 45 minute kind.

Pits have only been a popular breed since the 90s right?

When I was a toddler in the '50s, one of my favorite playmates was a pit owned by my smotheringly cautious paternal grandparents. Wasn't chosen to protect us kids but to be a playmate ala Petey, the Little Rascal's dog, and I'm sure ours wasn't the only family of the time with such a member. There's long been great variation within the pit breeds, just like all others.

Interesting I know that the classic pit or American Pit Bull Terrier has been around for a long time but I always thought they didn't become house hold pets until the mid 80's or 90's.
