I prefer gas because I don't like the racket or cost of maintaining diesel.
If I liked diesel I'd still be a truck driver.
I've been driving a 1-ton gas for about 10 years now. 10 MPG but, It's always 10 MPG loaded or not.
Actually on some long trips it gets 12MPG.

my everyday driver is a '02 f150 5.4. it gets like 12 mpg in town and 18 on highway. my old GMC i gave to the kid has a big block in it.it gets 10 mpg like your ton truck. up hill, down hill, loaded, unloaded dont change

Plus, with all the new towing extras you can get on the new gassers, there's almost no difference in the towing. The only thing a diesel wins in nowadays is retail value. Although, in my heart I will still always love the diesels more.

the big 3 dont make a pickup gasser that will pull with the smokers not even close.
had a drag race with the old mans 496 vs my old 7.3 both had three heavily loaded hay racks. not even remotely close

I'm amazed at the difference the exhaust made on my wife's truck. Replaced the stock with a 4" turbo back, and dropped about 350 RPMs while cruising at 60, and the mileage has gone up, too. Still on the first tank since replacing it, but that bastard has been hanging around "F" for much much longer than usual.

How about this. Ask yourself how many times out of the year you haul a load. Is it worth the extra cost to get a diesel? Are you also going to use the truck for daily driving?

I would be towing a minimum of 26 times a year. 170 miles roundtrip and the truck will also be my daily driver.

If that is the case, then yes, I think you should go with the diesel.

You may want to look into a cheap car for dd. It will help save you a lot of money in gas.

Yep. Plus there's no way he can haul a Cat grader with a 40 foot trailer. He normally just hauls his backhoe, bobcat, and all the onsite stuff he needs. He hauls his Cat and his Roller with either his water truck or snowplow/dump truck.

I would have no problem taking advice about trucks and heavy hauling from someone who's had their drivers license for all of 6 months.

I had three Ford trucks. Had enough.
Oh, I used to brag about how ford pickups actually have truck front-ends until I paid to get them rebuilt a few times. They turn like shit and you pay extra for it in parts, tires, and repairs.

I'm too poor to drive a turd. Furd. Whatever. :)
