My current boat. Peddling in winds over 12 is a lost cause and I'm tired of wasting days sitting at home because it's too windy for us.

There are a ton of those around for under 10K. Might have to go take a look on Monday.

For those lakes, a Lund Alaskan would be a great choice.

Unless you are a bass tourney fisherman, avoid glass boats. As far as aluminum boats go, only welded. Don't waste your money on riveted if you plan on using the boat much.
With motors, it's gonna be another Ford, Dodge and GM debate, so there really isn't a point.

You want a 16-17 footer for Devils and Sakakawea? I guess you're planning on only going out when there's no wind!

Seriously if you want to be able to fish most days and not worry, you're going to want a 20-21 footer. Some proven big water walleye boats are Lund, Ranger, Alumacraft, Yar-Craft and Crestliner. I'd shy away from Crestliner because they tend to be very wet rides when the waves are rockin.

In the size range you're talking about, Tracker also makes a decent boat. It's no Lund, but they're deep and wide. I'd be looking in MN if I were you, plenty of selection.

I'd stay away from anything with a Mercury oil injected motor, they go boom and get expensive.

I've got a friend with an 18' Tuffy for sale for under 10K. Rides nice, but wetter and smaller than he wanted for Peck so he upgraded to a 21' Yar-Craft. Glasgow isn't that far from the Devils Lk area.

For real. That 17 footer is going to feel real small when the wind isn't even howling on those lakes. Talk to some bait shops or boat dealers in the area about what others run.

I'm confused as all hell. I spent 2 fishing seasons on Devil's lake in a 17' Deep V without a single wet day ever. You are way over thinking Devil's lake.

Well, im positive my uncles boat is bigger than 18ft, it's wide, and has a big motor off the back and he still has some sketchy stories about skating the boat up and down waves sideways just to run back to the ramp

Probably just smarter than someone who wants to chance it in a smaller boat

I took a second look today with a marine engineer friend of mine at a boat that my wife and I are thinking about for making the "Loop". 42' Grand Banks Trawler, twin diesel. Two bedrooms, two baths and two salon doors. Don't know how, when or what, but this is pretty much what we want and it is in pretty good shape. Main cabin (stateroom) in aft trunk cabin and v-birth with separate head and shower.
