I'm going way out there on this but I speculate the rivers and bypasses will be blown out by Christmas.

Their is one little piece of ground you're forgetting. The Sink will be fully flooded and has a metric ass ton of food and habitat.............. Dear God Joel's gonna ****'em up. **** good and hard right in the binger.

No I'm not forgetting it but if and I do mean if this go's down your still talking thousands of areas less for the birds and most importantly much of that ground gets no hunting pressure which means the birds get in there and sit.
The butte sink gets a ton of pressure and that in it self will keep the birds moving .
At least that's my opinion , I don't mind the places that get hunted it's the sanctuary fields that kill you.

Most of those clubs only see a couple of hunters each shoot day witch is only three days a week and hunting stops at 11 a.m . Hell we got a buddy that runs one of the bigger clubs in there. They'll go a week or more with out a member even showing up. Most of that hunting area is damn sanctuary anyways. I'm just thinking that the birds will get in there and not leave most of the season.

It's Tilers time to shine.

We hunt up there every year my buddy has 2 four man pits actually one is a three man now because they installed steps for his buddy's dad , but every time we hunt it there are a good number of guns all around.
Anyway my point isn't there is no place for birds up there it is they will be on far less ground and that should be good for everybody.
If it comes about.
He also has a blind in the sutter bypass I hunted it the year before last on a slow day I only saw two mallards all day but they were kind of special.

Yeah, it's a two headed monster. Where are you going to hunt? A refuge with less water and ton more pressure for the the displaced rice guys? A delta with more people hunting it? Or a public creek or river? Every one has the same Idea for a "Plan B" option. The grasslands will be hurting more then the north valley. You get the water from up here. If we are hurting the San Joaquin valley will be worse off. This is gonna be shitty all around if what is speculated turn out to be true.

I'll be down here in the grasslands. A little club hunting, a little refuge hunting. Luckily I live real close so putting in for lotto numbers at two different check stations isn't that big of a deal.

I do a 3 to 4 refuge loop three days a week if we don't have a reservation. Our chances with more people putting in with a possible 50percent less water letting less people on. It ain't looking good brother.

Using water to decompose rice causes the valley to look almost one big lake from the coast range to the sierras and in many places there is no hunting pressure. Ducks have almost unlimited choices as to where to feed and where to rest. The amount of water area per duck is large. When rice stubble was burned and only certain fields were flooded for hunting, the ducks had far less water and hunting was easier, especially if the flooded fields you hunted were somewhat isolated. I remember one year when the Western Canal (I think it was) was going to hold back water and charge more for what was available, we used a pto pump to flood 105 acres of burnt rice stubble and had one of the best seasons ever. I don't think the lack of water is going to hurt so much as it is going to be more expensive because water will have to come from underground.

It wont work. It'll suck up all the water and sink like a stone.

On second thought, it'll soak up so much water there wont be any and you wont need the ark any longer. Good plan, carry on.

I hope one of you fellas is very successful cutting / using almond wood for your Ark ....
I hunt in the Grasslands between 3 refuges on a private piece not very big but under a flyway so , for what natural water
I have it works most of the time . I'm not to worried about company as I hunt mostly alone . I'm very concerned
for the north State though and as with only a few spots (with water and no flow) will bring decease and less birds for
all of us to enjoy killing . I do know the refuges in my area will have water and with the condensed pressure , I'll be fine !

I haven't heard from a single person yet who doesn't have this whole thing figured out and will be "fine".

Sounds like everybody's going to be rolling doughnuts on green tops and using their deep well pumps to spread sweet duck nectar over their fields.

Link it up
Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward. Whoever cannot take care of himself without that law is both. For a wounded man shall say to his assailant, "If I live, I will kill you. If I die, you are forgiven." Such is the rule of honor.

It might take quite a few buckets of water to fill a rice check Boot ?
OH , and what about shooting with a dust mask on , is that too in your plans ?
We're All hoping for the best season ( or any season ) as water is running out in most areas so let it rain ,
before the water board shuts down all pumping......with Big fines and lost of water-rights ?

Just praying for the best for everyone !

Think how much money you could save if you only had to buy one box of ammo every 2-3 years!

I bought 4 boxes last year and didn't even use one. It was saddening.

I shot 40 something birds last year and went through just shy of 2 cases.
