It's only right that every guy would have a Woodrow hanging , you can go with me sometime if you want.

Now I know why I'm having such a tough time getting one.......you shot them all. I appreciate the offer. If you end up looking for a hunting partner one weekend let me know. I'm only two towns down from you. Lunch is on me.

Put in for Howard Slough, great opportunity for wooducks.

A buddy of mines neighbor has a bunch of wood duck boxes that he set up on a little drainage slough that is the boarder between their properties. There's a nice little flock of un hunted woods that are kind of like his pets. If they only knew how many times I've spared their lives.

Yeah I hear yeah. My buddy puts out around 100 and something every spring. And the members don't shoot them. They just want to see them cruising around when they're out hunting. I get it but still I would shoot a few here and there if it was up to me.

It's awfully tempting. Little bastards always make a point of buzzing by us multiple times we're out there during the second dove season.

I used to take them for granted back home. We shot a lot of Woodies early season. I haven't seen one in 8+ years. Miss the hell out of them now.

Can you rake 7 woodies a day in CA?

I think I need to hunt the Pac flyway.

this musta been before ya scored the sweet lanyard

I was working on the lanyard it even back then lol.
but we don't mess with calling wood ducks , if your where they want to be in the evening there is no keeping them out ,
pick a dark day on a roost pond , because their roost habits are more controlled by light than any duck I know of.
They will come in early and you could stand in the pond if you wanted , they are still come in hot and heavy.
The only danger is after a great shoot guys want to go back and if they get scared out several times they are done with that pond.
About 30 years ago we had a another roost pond and we shoot it three or four times.
If I recall correctly it was over 10 years before they can back and to my knowledge it's never been the same

Clubs along Butte creek see hundreds of them every morning and evening. Lots of them where habitat allows. I hunted a club one time next to a club that has around 100 acres of flood timber. With out a doubt we saw a couple thousand woodies dump into it that morning. We couldn't do nothin with them. They knew where they wanted to go.

This.

We shoot our private swamps twice a season and that is it.

I think every flyway has its bright spots , we have hunted Missouri in the spring for snows and they put on a show.

We have tons of woodies here, but can only take 3 a day "legally"

Even though I don't care to hunt them , the ranch I hunted for years had 87 Wood Duck boxes ! These were maintained by
a Biologist from Fresno and some Students from Fresno State . Every year we could see a increase in the Wood Duck flock on
the ranch and along the river . Like Legband said , they aren't the smartest bird in the marsh but one of the prettiest , even
tho they are a easy target to hit . Yep ! we are allowed 7 of them in our limit and they are Damn good eating too !
Just don't show them to your Wife or Kids or you'll be eating them all by yourself !

As my son and brother were hunting on the river one morning , a flock of Teal came bussing down to their spread , they
raised up and dropped 4 or 5 birds ,as they retrieved them one was a Mandarin Drake , the prettiest bird I ever saw ! The
problem was , my other Fly Fishing brother got ahold of it before I could get it mounted .

And it was banded......

That's shocking, Michigan is packed full of them and we are only allowed three.
