Except if they didn't have that program you would have spent $282.00 over the last 70 days...

Believe it or not, not everything is a huge conspiracy. Our regional grocer (Hy-Vee), has a Fuel Saver program that is fucking incredible. It is not based on how much you buy, rather what you buy. They run specials all the time, I think my best deal so far was about 40 cents off per gallon for $36 worth of groceries. I think our location (probably better than a dozen around town) has already given out over a million dollars in gas discounts in a little over a year of the program being in effect.

They give it for specific items, not just general purchase amounts, and you don't think there I'd funny business going on?

Exactly. Or damn we still have 30 pallets of peanuts in the ware house let's mark them up 10% and put them on the fuel saver program to move them.

No company anywhere is going to give away anything for free. You're paying for that gas somewhere.

No one responded to my post on what our local Sunoco gas chain has.

I get 10¢ off per gallon for buying an extra large coffee at $2.28 which includes our 8% sales tax. So I just paid 28¢ for an extra large cup of coffee because I am going to pay for the gas anyways. They have been doing this for 4 years, 24/7/365.

I can't even brew my own coffee for that price. Do tell how I am getting screwed.

No, you're not really paying for the gas. It's all about margin vs revenue. Gas is pretty much a loss-leader at convenience stores. And since I'm buying the coffee and smokes anyway, I may as well get the (basically) free gas.

So, Olly says you are paying for the gas somewhere, and Assa says gas doesn't really turn a profit for a store anyways but the smokes and coffee he buys makes them the money. You guys are saying the same thing. With the only addition being "I'm going to buy it anyways so might as well get something out of it". This is agreed, just like getting money at the grocery stores back towards gas.

Grocery store around here will give you 20 cents off per gallon for every 50 bucks you spend. It applies to every item in the store, they just apply it to the total of your receipt at the end of the transaction. As mentioned above, I have to buy gas and groceries, this way I save some cash on it.

Actually, it is almost the exact opposite. Usually the things that qualify for the food saver are also on sale. I'm not retarded, I work retail, I have a pretty good idea what the things I buy frequently cost. If something jumped 10% to be part of the program, I would know it.
