Ok so to begin. Any of you that have been married or otherwise making a home life with someone will know how when the wife is talking most of the time, 99.9% of the time, we arent listening. Our attention is on hunting, fishing, drinking or on the huge set of ta ta's bouncing across the tube.We just move our heads in a non-committal way as to not really suggest a yes or no. On my second marriage, 9 years so far, I have become fairly adapt at this most of the time. Its the canned answers that lead into either conflict, something we should do but would rather not, or something we sure as hell dont want to do but signed on anyway.
This is what got me on a diet. Yes I could stand to loose a few inches around the gut, I'm closing in on 60 and have to start sometime.
It started last Saturday with the wife talking about starting on a Nutrisystem diet designed for diabetics so she can try to get her A1C lower. So hence the non-committal head movement. Yes means she's fat, and she isn't. No means I dont care about her health. NON-COMMITTAL works best here. I quickly lost interstate in hearing anymore when I should have paid closer attention when she asked if I wanted to try the diet. Instead...my ears pick up a question that by her voice inflection she really wants a yes answer....my answer..."sure, sounds good". More tata's please.
Hence the box of Nutrisystem she proudly has waiting for me when I get up to go to work Saturday night.
You might ask why the hell do it if you dont want to,can't. The shroud of complete knowledge of all things happening must be maintained else the wife will begin to pay attention to my non-attentive listening. Plus they in turn will be less apt to use their own form of the same tactic. And that will not do the next time I say I'm about to order a bit of carving wood, and paints and have her ask "how much dinero Pancho?"

i just sit quietly till she stops talking.. this is when i pay attention.. if it is any type of request for a response, i reply with "HUH?" yea, this does not always work and has earned me the silent treatment a few times, but i just blame it on my ADD!!
