At what time do you stop hunting in the morning?

And don't say "when I have my limit"

My morning hunts usually end right at noon...

Should have, but didn't. The wind stopped blowing hard enough to spin my lucky dove (public ground, can't use batteries) so I called it. Made one do a back flip (must have just skimmed in front of him) and completely whiffed on one hovering over my decoys.

Anyone have suggestions for how to make those wings spin easier?

Polish the shaft and powdered graphite.

I called up lucky duck. Turns out I had the wings backwards. Why it maters, I have no idea, but the guy said one way it'll spin well, the other hardly at all.

Not in my experience, Flight. I've spent the whole morning polishing the shaft. Didn't affect my spinner at all.

are you old enough that it's just powder coming out? If not, that might be your problem

  Yep. Looks like I dropped on a piece of plywood on a pile of dust. I first heard of the problem from vampire friends of mine. It's why their caskets are so dusty. What else do they have to do lying in their all day?

Went back tonight, and it clearly isn't a night location. We jumped one on the way in that my buddy dropped and that was all I saw.

Feed in the morning, water in the afternoon. That's how we've always focused our hunts.

So, what's their general pattern? Wake up, feed, gravel, roost, water, feed, gravel roost?

Pretty much. For morning doves they start flying about 30 min after daylight hit feed, move on to water after that then around 4 or 5 will hit fields again. White wings fly later in the day than morning doves.

Our first little dove split starts today. Makes no difference to me, as I don't expect to bother them, but my pigeons will be pissed about being grounded for the week.

I picked some up this summer and have been somewhat concerned with that. Mine don't appear to venture more than a quarter mile or so from the loft, which shouldn't put them in any immediate danger during the week, but I'm planning on keeping them up during the weekends.
