I came up with a sweet game while in my kayak today. Duck Poker

Ace - Pintail or Canvasback
King - Mallard drake or Redhead drake
Queen - Mallard hen or old squaw
Jack - Spoonbill or C golden eye
10 - NA Wigeon or scoter
9 - Woody or rider
8 - Gadwall or B golden eye
7 - BW Teal or Buffy
6 - GW Teal or Rudy
5 - C Teal or ring neck
4 - Eurasian Wigeon or tufted
3 - Black Duck or smew
2 - Whistling Duck or merganser

Joker/wild - Harlequin

Rules are the same as any poker game as far as hands go (royal flush, straight, etc...) and you can only have 4 of one kind.

Everyone could pick their best hunt from the year and use it as their hand. Posting a picture of it here.

If I wanted I would use today's hand...

My best hand this year, K high, with a merganser kicker

Create two suits, puddlers and divers, so you can get a straight flush, which I believe is what you intended. If you want 4 suits, split them further into hens and drakes.

It seems like a fun idea. It would be more fun if I thought I had a real chance of even getting a single decent hand during a year.

BTW, why is a mallard a K and a black duck a 3? Mallard is king, no doubt about it, but I'd put black duck up in the face cards and move the shoveler down.

Have to be week at a time wouldn't it? Surely in a seasons time everyone would tie with a top notch hand. My seasons starts a week from today if you girls need another player

Although if we are using what the group shot, and not necessarily you, and best from the year, I'd have a full house of aces over kings with cans and mallard/redheads

If you split it, two suits puddlers and divers, few people would get a royal flush. Few would even get a straight flush. If you add that only 2 "cards" of the same "suit" could be used, it would be tough to get 4 of a kind because, for example, it would have to be 2 mallards and 2 redheads to get 4 kings.

We have a season-long bowfishing tournment that is a lot of fun and you get points by getting the most species, certain combos are bonus points, points for the largest (doesn't really work with ducks but bands could add points). This kind of thing could be a lot of fun, the problem for me is I just don't see the variety of ducks or this year pretty much ducks at all.

Yea man I hear ya I gotta drive 8 damn hours to get to my fields. Hunting where I Iive sucks. I try for 4-5 trips around 4 days each. If i only hunted east tn I'd be hurtin for the most part

I guess I didn't remember/read it right because the reds and mallards are hens, but the next day we got 4 drake reds for 4 kings with an ace kicker

This is all group counting tho obviously. Daily limit on reds is 2, cans 1, and mallards 4 so... I guess 2 kings and a queen for me that day
