Snake proofing your dog

Duck season is closed down here in South Texas until next weekend and I'm heading to a buddies deer lease that has some quail. I'm tempted to take my lab to do some flushing but there are a lot of rattlesnakes on this section of land so I'm worried she'll get hit. It hasn't gotten cold enough to send them underground yet so I'm probably going to leave her at home.

Anybody ever snaked proofed their dog or had a pro do it. I've heard of catching a rattlesnake and stapling their mouth shut then bring out your dog. When the dogs natural curiosity takes over and she sniffs the snake hit her with the highest level on the tri-tronics collar. I've also thought of catching a blue indigo which are non poisonous and doing the same thing but I want my dog to hear that rattle and think Oh Shit not that again.

I'd go to a pro, if you can find a club doing it at the same time you can walk away for $40 or so. Much better option IMO to use his de-fanged snakes vs playing roulette with how well that staple will hold.

I think I'd definitely use a few wraps of bailing wire in addition to the staple before I let a rattle snake mock strike at my dog.

Might want to add an 8lb sledge for good measure.

I said I've heard of people doing that down here with a heavy duty staple gun. Didn't say I would do it. I'm going to seek out the pro and let them do it.

I didn't see any quail this weekend or nilgai or wild hogs and got my Hummer stuck up to the axles. Was so pissed I drank a bunch of beer and went and got myself a hangover. Not going to do that again. At least for a while.

Nope he's got it right. I believe it's an African type animal that are fairly common in some areas of the south texas coast area. Pretty funny looking with goat type straight horns.
