We are scheduled to go out next weekend to do the work needed on the blind but that all depends on how fast these flood waters recede. I talked to a guy this morning that helps manage our marsh and they were stuck down there for a few days while prepping for the rise. The roads home were flooded. He told me the levees are holding but the water in the marsh is high, and once it recedes on the outside they'll open the control gates. Hopefully our levees aren't topped, and the cuts in the levees at Rokefeller do the job of moving flood waters from all affected areas.


Poor Gueydan could be in a bind.

Gueydan Mayor: Don't panic - National Guard is there to help

Gueydan Mayor Chris Theriot wants the citizens of his town to know what is happening in the town right now.

At about 1 p.m. Friday, Theriot said the U.S. Army National Guard was in town to place superbags of sand to plug the breach at the bayou just north of the town of Gueydan. This work, it is hoped, will stop the water that's pushing up against the back pump-off canal in Gueydan, Theriot said.

The Guard is using large equipment and helicopters to move the sand, he said, and he wants the town's residents to know what all the activity is.

"Don't panic when you see all the helicopters," he said. "Right now, don't panic. We are still under a voluntary evacuation. If you feel you need to leave, please do so. But don't panic."

Theriot said he is monitoring the efforts very closely and will keep us updated.


On a lighter/ brighter note, the weather may be shaping up to be pretty decent this fall.

The September through November months are expected to feature cooler-than-average temperatures across the northern tier of states, according to a fall temperature outlook by The Weather Company, an IBM Business.

Near to slightly above-average temperatures will prevail across the East Coast, South and much of the West, however, said Dr. Todd Crawford, chief meteorologist with The Weather Company.

According to Crawford, the September forecast is cooler across the central U.S. and into parts of the East. As of mid-August, the weather pattern that will bring these cooler temperatures has already begun to take shape.

Cousin of mine saw some BW teal in rice fields south of Abbeville pass the 82/ 333 split on his way to Intracoastal city this morning.

Still haven't seen anything or heard much on that front here. But our Creole kids, who'd been unaffected, say the water is rising significantly and threatening road closures there, now, So accomplishing anything in Grand Chenier may be a couple more weekends down the road for you, as this stuff finds its way to the Gulf.

Busted up my shoulder pretty bad in Baton Rouge yesterday helping to gut my wife's work place after this flooding. It's a painful chore just to get my arm on the desk to work the mouse. We were able to get it to a point of having a temp working space (office/sales)but they have a long way to go. The main fab building's equipment went under covering all of the electronic components. What a mess.

May not be able to make it out to the marsh this weekend regardless of the water situation...... If I do, maybe in a supervisory position only. This sucks!

Hurricane in our future? This would not be good......and I'll be seeing a specialist for my shoulder, more than likely, as it seems to not be getting any better. If surgery is required I will no doubt be out for the season.

I ripped something in my right shoulder last spring and immediately thought "rotator cuff," but it slooooowly got better. Hope you'll be as fortunate.

Trying not to dwell on the possibility of another deluge, much less storm surge.

I called the Orthopedic surgeons office this morning to make an appointment and didn't expect to get in this quick. I will be seeing him in the morning. I wanted to see how the healing would go but maybe he'll get me there a little quicker.....If i don't have to have surgery.

Sitting, with my arms out in front of me and my elbows at my side, I cannot lift my elbow away from my body even close to horizontal without pain from the joint to the elbow. Forward and rear rotation not so bad....... we'll see.

Shoot. I have a sore shoulder and a stiff elbow and it's nothin compared to what you're talking about. (my good aiming arm)

I think all I gotta do is remember to take some advil b4 the hunt.

Doc said shoulders are just worn out and will hurt if I do stupid stuff. Got a cortisone shot and it worked wonders, not pain free, but more movement without pain. Just got to heal. To DA MARSH I GO!

Doc's a duck hunter and said his duck ponds up this way were badly flooded and he lost all vegetation.

Glad you feel more better. Them cortisone shots are awesome but only last a few months. The first couple weeks are like "new" whatever they shot.

Had it done once to my right paw. It sucked watching the guy shove that needle into my freakin hand right in front of me. Plus them dumb dumb orthopedic docs laughed when I told them the shotgun kicked back and hurt me. They said their mom's don't let them play with guns. Geesh.

That's whats on my diagnosis sheet, so I guess I pissed off those already irritated muscles and tendons last Sunday. They're just gonna have to get used to it.

The cortisone helped greatly for a short while and I'm a little better off, but not by much right now. Suck it up and move on.

When I boogered mine last spring I wanted to strap it to my side at night, so I'd quit trying to raise it in my sleep and waking myself up. Subconscious eventually wised up, but I still catch myself being afraid to wrap it around a pillow. In my case, time and caution were the cure - at least for the time being.

Heard this morning that the water has now risen over the road between Pecan Island and Rockefeller, so you may be out of marsh action this weekend, anyway.
