It's August and people start thinking about where to go.
I hunt public and have a dozens and dozens of options.
I'm going to hunt with Yankeegray as much as I can. He has private access.
Maybe tag along on a pay hunt too.
I don't think I've ever been so uncertain about a duck season.
I'm soo ready. My piggy bank is filling up.

We talked about this when I stayed at Kenny's.
Then guides invited me to say simply because I'd hunted at a very long list of venues they knew existed but had never tried. They wanted to hear all about public hunting.
That was weird getting envy from them guys. They kill a hundred times more ducks than me. I pretend-hunt on public. They're pros. I was especially surprised to see how much alike we hunt.
Kenny and his bunch are from southern Illinois.
They use Illinois tactics in arkansas and it works really well..If you can afford it book a hunt at Bayou bottoms.

Tennessee is trying to make camping on public land a felony. For a minute I got worried that Arkansas might too.
Then I remembered all the fuss over me camping here.

Multiple jurisdictions control that road. County, State, and Federal.
They all met and agreed its perfectly fine for me to use that spot. Try it on 7-mile road and they will run you off.
I caught hell from other people that got ran off. A county sherrifs deputy showed up to tell me it's ok. Times are changing and I'm thinking real hard about relocating my camp. The down side is that me being there is actually a crime deterent. An extra set of eyes..

Hey I'm no Eule Gibbons but am working slowly on a list of local plants that are edible.
When I figured out pokeweed is edible ...
I stalled. It also can make you sick.
The stuff grows everywhere here in summer.
Plantains too.
Sounds awful but so does starvation.

Nettles too.
Around here we have two types.
Stinging nettles or itchweed is one.
The other is very similar. Has soft edged leaves and grows within feet of the stinging variety.
It's "the cure ".
You get itchy ...find the other nettles.
Break a stem and rub the juice onto the itch.
I figure everyone knows this but you can eat it too.
Sounds like eating kittens.

My Asian neighbors made an ordeal out of dandelions each spring until they ate every one in their yard.
Watching them surgically remove each plant and how careful they do it was new.
Comical but they take their dandelions very seriously.

Perhaps you've seen video of me extracting honey.
People call me all excited wanting their specific needs fulfilled and they want raw unfiltered honey.
Lately I've had a wave of folks accusing me of filtering it.
Those videos prove that I don't. I use a "honey strainer" thats 200 microns.
It's a strainer not a filter. A honey filter is 50 microns.
Pollen is average 90 therefore it goes thru the strainer.

This one guy asked for unstrained. Uh ..no.
Not a chance if it got out that I sold "dirty" honey that's no good.

Me too. I put cider vinegar on greens and love it. Been doing it for 55 years. My mom's dad was a big time gardener. Taught me early.

This town, I forget it's name, is the duckiest place I know of. At the end of the highway is a boat ramp.
Extremely crowded.
That entire shacktown is all duck camps.
Brookings, Arkansas. Dave Donaldson WMA. The Black River.
Lake Ashbaugh is very nearby.
