Not sure what the deal was. We had a lot more shooting than our marsh's other blinds on either side, to include Isaac's. And Clark's Cherry Ridge blind north of me, which had been uncharacteristically slow this teal season, shot so much I texted him see if he wanted us to bring him more shells, and learned it was on it's third party.

May not see a duck tomorrow.

Failed to note in the log that among our visitors this morning were some beautifully sleek, and slow, pintails.

Perhaps a cyber space time warp. I'm generally up around 3 to have some private time before heading to one thing or another that meets the sun in thee marsh or field.

I definitely got here way earlier than I needed to. The first crew came a little bit after five and then I had four trucks come about 20 after five. I am Imagine leasing land has its advantages but so does the freedom of lots of open land to follow the birds around. Honestly it’s been 15 years if not more than I’ve gotten up this early to secure a spot. Usually I get off about four and I am out the door by 430. As the season progresses I push that back.

Date: 11/5 Sat

Time: morning

Location: mudhole

Cloud Cover: rain to thunder storms and back to just rain

Wind Direction and Velocity: NE varying

Temperature: cold after my old parka soaked through

Moon phase:

Special Notes: youth and vets' weekend

Waterfowl Activity: Disappointing, as most were probably long gone to the rice, given the weather.

Waterfowl Responsiveness: fortunately fine

Hunters: 1, Tyler, young vet

Guns:

Malfunctions:

Dog(s): Marsh was glad to be back at it, miserable weather and all.

Special Equipment: Wind had broken the older of my two 1/2" steel conduit spinner poles, so we were down to one whirligig.

Curses: Given the givens, and a long hot shower I'm not bitchin'.

Kudos: Tyler had his "best ever" hunt.

Birds By Species: 1 black-bellied whistling duck, 1 blue-wing teal, 4 gadwall, 1 green-wing teal, 1 mottled, 1 pintail and 3 ringnecks

Addendum to 11/5 "Malfunctions"

Had come out from a hot shower before logging this morning's hunt and somehow forgot:

"My oldest rain slicker gave up the ghost and left me cold and wet."

Was reminded by the folks in the stands for Georgia's game when the front hit there.

Date: 11/6 Sun

Time: morning

Location: mudhole

Cloud Cover: light rain to drizzle

Temperature: comfortable even when wet

Moon phase:

Special Notes: youth and vets' weekend

Waterfowl Activity: Our late start saw the last of the (big, slow) squealer flight from the boat run.

Waterfowl Responsiveness: Big duck tolled well - until seeing excited faces and/or bright ponchos. Teal were much more cooperative.

Hunters: 1, grand-nephew, Cy, an his non hunting dad, Josh. (Youngest brother, Deacon, slept in.)

Guns:

Malfunctions: Time change caught 'em napping, and we were way the hey late.

Dog(s): Marsh had a fine morning.

Special Equipment: replaced the spinner pole yesterday's front broke, so we were back to two spinners and the modified mallard maching, aka: SOS.

Curses: Just that Cy missed the big easy squealer flight that should have helped get him zeroed in much quicker.

Kudos: Cy eventually started catching up with his birds, and a big time was had.

Birds By Species: 4 blue-wing teal and 8 green-wing teal

Also, Congrats on the win Saturday eve!

New rain slicker is supposed to be here Thursday. Being less than wise, I wore it (bold print "BAD" now on the back and all) again Sunday, instead of the better one I have for the house, and ended up soaked again. Finally took a better look at it today and see the shoulder seams are letting go. "Maybe Aqua Seal" the cheap bastage in me whispered, as I decided not to trash it just yet.

LSU game was a fun one that may at least shush the dolts among our "fan" base for a little while...Naw, if the Woodward (our AD) and then Kelly had just listened to them, we'd win ''em all...
