Last day

Postby Eric Haynes » Sun Dec 16, 2012 4:06 pm

Well, it's here. Season is officially over for me here in NY. Still have another month to shoot them up on the Canadian side, but usually only go a couple times.

Ended the day with a drake black, drake and hen mallard, drake GE, and two drake mergies.

Ended the season with 192 birds. A little better than last year, but not as good as expected. Still a great year and I will be jealous of all of the pictures of you guys that get to hunt into january.

So you'll really not like the ones I post in Feb/March then?

Nice way to wrap up the season.

No I will love them. I have no problem being jealous. Nice drake!

44 as far as my journal says. For some reason I was thinking more than that.

37 hunts, # of birds is need to know basis, and still have almost all of January and a late hunt to go.

Last year was the first year I started keeping a journal and I'm glad I did. Not because I need to try improving on getting more birds, but comparing weather, how the ducks were flying at what times, comparison of morning and evening hunts, species taken at what times of the year, etc. I figure in a few years I'll have some good data to look at.

I need to know.

I don't keep track of what I shoot individually, just a blind total for myself and whomever I hunt with. It's been better than average this year.

I wish I could have had tape rolling when my buddy sat on a wasp nest opening day last year, first time duck hunting too.

That would have been a good one on film.
